DONOR INTRAUTERINE INSEMINATION How do I organize it? FIRST CONSULTATION: The first thing you need to do is book in for a first consultation. This consultation is essential to ensure that you are suitable for the procedure and that there are no medical reasons for which it is more likely that it will not work for you. At this appointment you will receive a full medical and gynaecological exam including an ultrasound to ensure that you are suitable for the procedure. All your investigations (bloods) are organised. Bloods will include: Hormonal test Thyroid function Liver and renal function Full blood count Screening for HIV, syphilis and hepatitis Once we have received all your results you will return for a second appointment. SECOND APPOINTMENT You attend this appointment when all your results are ready and it is clear that there is no problem for you to proceed with the treatment. You will receive your drug prescription and you will be shown how to use the medication. When you attend for this appointment you should have the sperm reserved and paid for with Cryos International. You should pick IUI ready straw MOT 5 and reserve two. Some patients prefer to order more straws as the expensive part is the transport (we can store the sperm here so you can order more for further treatments if you wish in case you were not successful). You can order the transport to us in dry ice which is cheaper. (dk.cryosinternational.com) START OF TREATMENT: Please telephone the clinic at the beginning of your cycle. If your period starts after 5pm the following day will be classed as Day 1. A date and time will be given to you to attend the clinic for your first scan. Day 2 please commence your medication as instructed. Gonal f (at the dose you have been prescribed) in the morning Day 6 commence Cetrotide in the evening and continue daily until otherwise instructed. Day 7-10 A vaginal scan will be performed and you will be instructed to attend for further monitoring as required. A plan for the IUI date will be done approximately after the first scan. When the scan shows that the ovaries are ready you will be given an injection called Ovitrelle. This releases the eggs. Following intra-uterine insemination you will be advised to start a daily progesterone vaginal gel for fourteen days. This is to keep the lining of womb receptive for a pregnancy.
