Mrs. Kleinberg’s World History class
Welcome to World History!
Course Overview
We do hard things in this classroom. Students are
expected to challenge and push themselves to develop
21st century skills. This class is specifically designed to
improve student inquiry and communication skills while
gaining the essential knowledge needed to be active and
informed citizens of the United States.
This is a full-year study of the development of
social, political, and economic institutions which
characterize civilizations from the mid-1400’s to
present day. The content of the course surveys
the history of all cultures and addresses topical
issues common to the progressive changes made
by humans. Students will develop inquiry and
communication skills while covering the course
material.
Students are expected to follow the district policies
described in their student handbook as well as the
classroom procedures outlined below.

Technology
Technology is essential to this class, and we will be
using it almost daily. From Google Drive to Google
docs, to researching topics on the internet, bringing
your own device (BYOD) every day is important to
success in this class. If you don’t have a device that
connects to the internet, you can check out a device
from the library for 3 weeks at a time! Headphones
are also frequently needed. It is important to note
that technology must be used as directed, or
students will be asked to put it away. Failure to
comply will result in disciplinary consequences.
Access to Grades & Info
Students and parents can go to SIS to access grades. Grades
will be updated approximately once every two weeks. Homework
assignments and daily activities will be made available on the
Google Calendar on my class website. You are also encouraged
to sign up for Remind: text @kcrewworld to 81010.
Textbook Information
Our class text is “Modern World History:
Patterns of Interaction” by Holt McDougal,
(ISBN 978-0-547-49114-1). While we will be
using a class set of textbook, students will
have online access to the text, or may check
out textbooks on an as-needed basis. Students
are responsible for the cost of the book if it is
damaged or lost.

Policies on Your Work
I expect you to turn in work when due at the start
of class.
Late work will be accepted until the end of a unit,
but will be penalized.
You may correct your work to earn points back on
assessments. This must be done during LLB or 8th
hr Wednesdays and by the set deadline.
You are responsible for getting your absent work,
and turning it in on time.
Communicate with me if something is going on
that is causing you to fall behind! Don’t wait until
the due date to tell me there is a problem!
Academic Honesty
 Do your own work!
 Don’t plagiarize, cheat, or copy
 Don’t share your hard work
 “Don’ts” will = zero & phone call
FYI:
This course, both semesters,
is required to graduate from
LHS. If a student receives a
failing grade for either or all
of the semesters, the
student is obligated to make
up the semester(s) he/she
failed. Other social studies
credits cannot be taken to
replace the World History
credit requirement.

Grading Information
Grades will be determined through a variety of
formative & summative assessments and
assignments. Grades will be calculated for each
quarter using the following formula:
75% assessments (projects, quizzes, tests,
DBQs, & some class work)
25% assignments (class work & homework)
Semester grade will be calculated using the
following formula:
Quarter 1 (42.5%) + Quarter 2 (42.5%)
+ Final Exam (15%)
The LHS grading scale will be used:
A = 90-100%, B = 80-89%, C = 70-79%,
D = 60-69%, F = below 60%

A Note
to Parents…
I am looking forward to uncovering World History with
your child this year. Please note that some work can only be
done in class, so attendance is extremely important.
I am available to help students outside of class each week. I
will post my availability and communicate this to students.
Know that you can contact me as needed throughout the

Parents, please be advised that sometimes historical events are controversial, deal with morals and religion, involve
political views, or tackle racism, sexism, or homophobia. These things are not pleasant, nor are images and words that
preserve violent times and harsh individuals. It may be necessary to view, read, and or hear these images, words and
sounds. The purpose will never be to promote the offensive but to understand it in a historical or social science
context. My role is to facilitate conversations, helping students to understand both sides of issues, so they can develop
educated opinions on topics that have affected people in the past and today. Most of history involves humans
disagreeing and as students of history we must analyze issues to understand the actions and motives of those who lived
in the past and present. If you or your child has a problem with the images, words, sounds that may be incorporated
into lessons, your child is always welcome to remove themselves from the class and complete an alternative
assignment.
