Confirmation Class Requirements
We understand confirmation, as a sacrament of the Church, to be an “outward and visible sign of
an inward and spiritual grace.” Through it, you make a mature public affirmation of your faith and
commitment to the responsibilities of your baptism. With it comes your proclamation that you
desire to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, and that He is your Savior and Lord.
How can you make a decision about how you want to live the rest of your life without knowing to
what you are committing? A process has been designed to help you experience a microcosm of the
Christian life and what it means to follow Jesus as your Savior and Lord. It includes:
Teaching
The main teaching component is the Confirmation Class on Sunday mornings in the All Saints
Center, Room 200 from 9:30 - 10:15 AM starting Sunday, September 11. However, “teaching”
occurs at almost every event you will experience from the Annual Meeting to the Confirmation
Retreat. The expectation is attendance at all Sunday classes; the requirement is at least 75%.
Service and Outreach
Jesus spent so much time meeting the real needs of others. Over the course of the Confirmation
instructional year, you will be invited to participate in a number of service opportunities with
your table leaders and as a class. You will be required to participate in at least two.
Worship
As a community and as individuals, we are formed and fed through our common worship. The
expectation is that you attend a Christ Church worship service every week.
Community / Fellowship
Jesus said, “As I have loved you, so you must love one another.” We are called to be in life-giving
community and fellowship with one another, and it is through that community that we come to
know God most fully. Through Confirmation, we hope that you will come to a deeper appreciation
for the ways in which God is revealed in Christian community—both through the community of
your fellow confirmands and table leaders as well as through involvement in the wider Church.
Prayer and Daily Devotion
Relationships with others are difficult to maintain without communication. A relationship with
God is the same – you have to communicate. That is what prayer is! The expectation for
Confirmation is that you develop a daily devotion time with God to strengthen your relationship
with Him. You are encouraged to use the Daily Office in the Prayer Book (or download the eCP or
Mission St. Clare apps) or find other devotional resources. Whatever resources you use, it is
important to make sure that reading and reflection on Scripture is a central part of that discipline.
