Martinsville Area Community Foundation Supports Blood Cancer Patient Services
Martinsville, Virginia – Martinsville Area Community Foundation, through its Cancer Center Fund,
recently renewed its support for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) patient services
programs through a grant of $1500.
LLS offers the most comprehensive array of services and support programs for blood cancer patients
and their families, all provided free of charge. These services include: information and education
programs for patients, families, and healthcare professionals; disease-specific webinars; support
groups; a phone and web-accessible Information Resource Center; clinical trial assistance; a First
Connection program that links newly diagnosed patients with someone who has journeyed the same
cancer diagnosis; and a Back to School program to facilitate a child’s learning and re-assimilation
experience after cancer treatment is completed. Additionally, LLS is one of the few remaining
charitable health organizations to offer direct financial assistance to qualifying patients in need.
Funds awarded by the Cancer Center Fund will help support and sustain these programs for patients
in Martinsville and Henry County.
“We are pleased that Martinsville Area Community Foundation and the Cancer Center Fund are
continuing their partnership with us to provide vital support services for patients and their caregivers
in Martinsville and Henry County.”, stated Chris Williams, LLS Donor & Community Relations
Specialist.
