Why do you need a CV?
It is the first opportunity you have to show an employer who you are
It is your chance to get your skills, experience and personality across
It is your chance to demonstrate why you are suitable for the role
It is an opportunity to promote yourself to companies that may not be advertising a role
It is a good way of keeping track of your work history
What Should you include?
Name, address and up to date contact details such as mobile phone number and email
Personal profile – always in the first person
Work experience starting with the most recent first – remember any
work that you have done either paid or unpaid is relevant
Skills – list level of competency in areas such as ICT and Languages
Education – include any predicted grades if you have not yet taken the exams
Interests – keep these to a minimum and be relevant
References – available on request
What Should you NOT include?
A photo of yourself, date of birth or your religion
Over complicated text boxes and graphics
Lengthy explanations about how a role ended
Personal opinions or comments
An over – tailored personal profile
Bad spelling or grammar
