Please note: These dates are subject to change in accordance with clinical requirements.
During this transition period, there will be some changes to visiting hours, meal times and your
routines. Our aim is to keep you informed of the changes as they start to impact you. We will also
be keeping your family and/or carer informed as the changes affect them too.
The information in this brochure provides some detail relating to your move. Your clinical team will
provide you with updates and further information closer to the move date. Your clinical team can
also answer your questions.
Special information briefings for patients and carers will be held in mid-September. Detailed
information about what is involved for your move will be provided and there will be an
opportunity to ask questions. Please ask your ward team about these briefing sessions.
Please be assured that you remain our highest priority and there will be absolute continuity of care
throughout the transition. If you are transferring to another hospital, we will ensure you have
support beside you the whole way.
On the move — patients
Shenton Park Campus patients will be transferred from 8am on 4 October 2014.
If you are a patient on a hospital ward on this move day, our hospital staff will tell you where you
will be transferred to and when. The same information can also be provided to your family, carer or
next-of-kin well before your transfer date so they know where to visit you.
On the move day, your medical needs will be managed by the ward’s clinical team, including your
doctor, and you will be advised of any changes to your usual routine for that day.
3
Mealtimes and routines
Breakfast will be served one hour earlier than your usual breakfast time. Morning snacks will be
provided to you if it is part of your treatment plan.
You will receive lunch either at Shenton Park Campus or Fiona Stanley Hospital depending on your
scheduled move period. Special diets will also be provided where required.
You will be advised of any changes to your usual routine, e.g. bathing, for the move day by your
clinical team.
Personal effects
To keep your belongings safe, we recommend you send valuables home with family or friends prior
to the move day.
One small travel bag containing your personal effects will be transferred with you on the day.
Please arrange for any additional items to be sent home prior to your move day. If this is not
possible, your additional belongings will be moved to Fiona Stanley Hospital in the days leading up
to your move.
Flowers cannot be transported to the receiving hospital. Please ensure all flowers are sent home
prior to the move day.
Personal electronic items will need to be checked before use at your new hospital. Arrangements
have been made for any such items to be checked on the move day.
Medical records
Your ward clinicians will prepare the required documentation for your move. Your medical record
will be taken with you on the day of the move and handed to your receiving hospital.
Transport arrangements
How you will be transported to your receiving hospital depends on your clinical needs. Not all
patients will be transported by ambulance. You will be informed about your vehicle and move time
in the days prior to the move.
St John Ambulance is coordinating all patient transfer vehicles and will liaise closely with your
medical team to determine the most appropriate mode of transport required.
You will be accompanied throughout your transfer journey and your medical file will travel
alongside you on the day.
At your new hospital
You will be taken directly to your new ward at Fiona Stanley Hospital.
Staff will efficiently re-admit you and you may be required to answer standard medical
administration questions on arrival.
Staff will help you settle into your new hospital environment.
You will receive the same safe, high-quality efficient health care you have become accustomed to
at your original hospital site.

On the move — carers, family and friends
Visiting Shenton Park Campus
All patients will be moved to their new hospital from 8am on 4 October. To help us make the move
day as smooth as possible, it is recommended carers, family and friends visit you at the new
hospital after 2pm; however, if you wish to visit a patient at Shenton Park Campus on the move day
morning, please check with ward staff prior to the day.
Parking and traffic management
The main Shenton Park Campus entrance off Selby Street will be closed from 6pm Friday, 3
October 2014. The entrance will re-open from 6am Saturday, 4 October to vehicles involved in the
relocation of patients only.
Car parks along Ellis Griffiths Drive and Lemnos Street will be closed from 6pm Friday, 3 October.
Visitors will be directed to the oval car park located adjacent to the Curtin University building if they
are visiting Shenton Park Campus.
Visiting Fiona Stanley Hospital
Patient support visitors
Passes
We understand how important it is for patients to have the support of family and carers when
moving to a brand new environment. To support patients during the move, arrangements have
been made to issue two patient support visitor passes per patient.
These passes allow the holders to gain entry to the hospital to visit before 2pm. The passes are
transferrable as long as there is a maximum of two visitors with the patient at any one time.
Carers, family and friends will need to apply for a patient support visitor pass in advance by
contacting Shenton Park Campus ward staff. The passes will be issued on Friday 3 October.
You will be required to present your visitor’s pass to hospital security staff to enter the hospital prior
to 2pm.
Traffic management and access
Plan your arrival time to be after the patient has been admitted. We will let you know the time
your relative is due to arrive at Fiona Stanley Hospital. You can telephone ahead to check if they
have arrived and are settled.
As many of the roads and car parks near the State rehabilitation service are closed and restricted
to St John Ambulance vehicles only, it is important to follow the directions given by the traffic
wardens when entering the hospital grounds.
Patient support visitors arriving before 2pm must enter the hospital via Jennalup Street off Murdoch
Drive and park in car parks 8 and 9. These car parks are a 5-minute walk from the State
rehabilitation service.
5
Visitor booth
Patient support visitors arriving before 2pm should check in at the visitor booth on arrival. It is
important to follow the signs leading to the visitor booth from the car park so as not to interfere with
the patient transfer process.
Patient support visitors will be escorted to the patient’s room once the patient has arrived and is
admitted.
General visitors
Visiting hours
Visiting hours on the move day are between 2pm and 8pm; however, this will be subject to any
delays with the patient move. As patient safety is our primary focus, general visitors will only be
accepted after all patients are safely transferred and admitted to their new ward.
Please do not arrive before 2pm as you will not be able to gain entry to the hospital grounds or
facilities, which includes car parks.
Parking and transport
All visitor car parks will be open to general visitors from 2pm on the move day. Car park 5 provides
direct access via a footbridge on level 1 to the State rehabilitation service. ACROD parking bays
can be found in every car park and are located closest to the pedestrian access ways.
On move day visitors can park for free in the visitor car parks.
Normal fees will apply after move day and are charged at $2 per hour and capped at $10 per day.
The hospital is a 10-minute walk from Murdoch Train Station. Buses regularly run between the
station and the hospital. Please visit the Transperth website www.transperth.wa.gov.au or call 13
62 13 for individual public transport options.
Taxi ranks can be found on Barry Marshall Parade and Robin Warren Drive.
Assistance and support
The hospital is a large campus and visitors should pre-plan their journey to determine the best
access route to the ward being visited.
The Fiona Stanley Hospital Customer Liaison Manager will be available on the move day as a
contact point for visitors and staff will be on-hand to assist you with finding your way around the
new facility.
