ACH Positive Pay Quick Tips
The ACH Positive Pay functionality allows you to set up rules to both pre-authorize specific
ACH transactions and to monitor for ACH transactions that match specific guidelines on positive
pay accounts. There ACH Authorization Rules Setup is used to define the rules required to
achieve the desired pre-authorization and monitoring results.
ACH Authorization Rules
The ACH Authorization Rules Setup screen is used to define all of the pre-authorized ACH
transaction rules for an account. An ACH authorization rule can include the originating
company, standard entry class, transaction type (debits and/or credits), and maximum authorized
dollar amount. If an unauthorized ACH item posts to an account, the rules determine whether the
item requires a pay/return decision or if the client should simply be alerted via email that
unauthorized activity has occurred.
The following fields are available on the ACH Authorization Rules Setup screen:
Notification Type: Select Create Exception or Email Notification Only. The value Create
Exception indicates that an unauthorized transaction will become an exception that requires a pay
or return decision by the client. The value Email Notification Only indicates that the client will
receive an email notification of any unauthorized transaction.
Client ID: Select the client ID corresponding to the account for which the authorization rule is to
be used.
Company ID: Enter the Company ID of the company originating the transaction.
Standard Entry Class Code: A list of ACH standard entry class (SEC) codes. Either a specific
SEC code can be selected or “ALL – All Standard Entry Class Codes” can be selected to include
all SEC codes.
Debits or Credits: Select either debits, credits, or both debits and credits to define the types of
transactions for this rule.

Maximum Allowable Amount: Enter the maximum transaction amount allowed based upon the
other criteria selected for this authorization rule. If the maximum amount field is left blank, the
transaction amount will not affect the authorization process.
ACH Transactions Report
The ACH Transactions Report allows bank and client users to review posted ACH transaction
activity. Only those transactions with valid ACH Standard Entry Class (SEC) codes and/or ACH
transaction codes appear on this report.

ACH Exceptions Included with Check Exceptions
If an ACH rule is defined to “create an exception”, the ACH exceptions are included with the
check exceptions as far as making a pay/return decision is concerned. The exception will
either be an “Unauthorized ACH Transaction” (if the item does not match the authorization
rules) or a “Blocked Transaction” (if the item matches the transaction filter/block guidelines).
ADD ACH RULE: Optionally, the Client may be granted rights to add an ACH
authorization rule directly from the exception screen. This provides a very convenient

method for clients to manage their own ACH rules.
Clicking Add ACH Rule will display a screen
to define the rule to be added to the ACH
Authorization Rules. The elements of the ACH
exception transaction are defaulted to the
screen including the SEC Code, Company ID
and DR/CR.
The Add ACH Rule function can be enabled/disabled at the user level, which enables a
corporate client to control which employees can manage ACH rules.

Returns
If you decide to return an ACH item, you will automatically be prompted to complete an online
version of an ACH affidavit form for returned exceptions.

When the “Click here to display and print the ACH Return Affidavit” link is clicked, the form is
displayed.
Here is a sample of an ACH Return Affidavit form displayed after the link is clicked:
The form is displayed within the main positive pay screen area. Once completed, return the
form to your local branch or email it to [email protected].
