Data Mining and Text Mining on Survey Data Machine Learning and Data Mining has been used with large success in biology, linguistics and many more. Its application to survey data, however, has been quite limited. One reason, naturally, is the concern about “data-driven” research, another reason is the limited knowledge of many practitioners regarding the methods and limitations. The goal of this workshop is to present research on survey data that utilizes data mining or text mining, but also to give a voice to concerns regarding these methods and to discuss boundaries and open problems that might be solved with data mining methods. This workshop will be organized by Dr. Angelika Scheuer and Dr. Brigitte Mathiak, both from GESIS - Leibniz institute for the Social Sciences. Dr. Mathiak has a PhD in computer science with broad experience in Data Mining in various domains, such as bioinformatics and image processing. Dr. Scheuer is social scientist with special interest in the comparative analysis of international surveys with a view on political and social attitudes. The Call for Paper for the workshop will be circulated both in both communities: survey methodologist and data miners. It is planned to include time slots for a tutorial on Data Mining for Survey Data should the number of acceptable submissions not suffice for a full programme. Target Audience: interested Survey Researcher, Computer Scientists.
