Home and School Meeting Tuesday, January 13, 2015 Welcome – Kish Herrmann/Stephanie Fox Meeting called to order at 7:02 p.m. Attended by: Stephanie Fox, Kish Herrmann, Danielle Kulibert, Julie Johnson, Kristin KoeperHamblin, Lindsay Lamm, Melissa Maas, Lisa Ann Heberer, Laurie Rades, Andrea Wichman, Nancy Holzem and Kristy Cravillion. Secretary’s Report – Danielle Kulibert Motion to approve minutes from November 11, 2014 meeting. Approved by Lindsay Lamm, 2 by Melissa Maas There is a new updated format for our meeting minutes. This will hopefully help parents who miss a meeting better understand what was discussed. Past meeting minutes are available on our website. nd Treasurer’s Report – Julie Johnson Money coming in since our last meeting includes a $1,200 check from our general fundraiser which brings our current total to $8,682. As of today, we still do not have the amount we made on our Culvers Night Out. Expenses include printing our Student Directory, which was less than $200. We handed out Teacher Allocations right before Thanksgiving. We don’t have many expenses left for the year. We have Staff Appreciation in May, our copy paper expense and our Hamilton Education Foundation basket. Some other checks that are still coming in are Box Tops, Coke Rewards and Tyson. Family fun night is February 6 . We made about $1,900 last year. This is not meant to be a huge fundraiser, we just hope to make a little money after expenses. th Principal’s Report – Kristin Koeper-Hamblin We are finishing up the current round of MAP testing and hope to have this finished by Friday. At that time, the data will be analyzed for growth and we should have a report back on this by our next meeting. We anticipate the next session of MAP testing and Smarter Balance testing will be after spring break. End of the quarter is January 22 with January 23 being a work day for teachers. Mid-year evaluations for teachers are due on January 31 . The 1 quarter report cards are now closed so teachers can start working on the 2 quarter. As of right now, there is no way to tell if parents are viewing these report cards on Infinite Campus. Teachers really like the new report card set-up on Infinite Campus. After 2 quarter report cards are available for viewing, past comments are no longer available. Illness seemed to run through the district before winter break. Hoping the time-off helped to stop the cycle and get everyone healthy again. nd rd st st nd nd Old Business – Kish Herrmann/Stephanie Fox We continue to try and increase our awareness of Home and School with our marketing. We have a website, Facebook and email that we use consistently. It is hard to tell how effective these are because we assume it is usually the same people visiting our sites. We encourage parents to follow us on Facebook, as we update often with news and upcoming events. After an open discussion about how to spend our fundraising dollars, some more ideas were brought to the table. The current list includes technology, benches, soccer nets and outside signs. New parent suggestions include more lighting for our outside parking lot because of how dark it is when families are walking to their cars after an event. There was also a suggestion for new and better gloves for rope climbing in gym class. Mrs. Koeper-Hamblin is investigating if getting new gloves through the district is a possibility. Technology is a top choice for parents. Mrs. Koeper-Hamblin did explain that our 3 grade computer lab is up for rotation to get updated by the district. We would like to see these devices be able to come to the classroom since moving the kids from room to room takes time away from learning. Mrs. Koeper-Hamblin does think that the school has enough computers per child. Even during test taking, it seems to work. rd New Business – Kish Herrmann/Stephanie Fox There was a district meeting in December and January. Julie Johnson went to the December meeting. The success of the Charger Challenge Santa Run and the upcoming HEF dinner on March 28th was discussed. The curriculum for 6 grade is changing, as they are putting more focus on reading. Hamilton High School will undergo an expansion due to so much growth. They will be adding 10 classrooms and 75 additional lockers for the incoming 9 grade class (the current 8 graders). This will be the last addition that can be done without a tax referendum. It will be done over two fiscal periods. The district calendar was discussed and the major change is the children’s day off in January will be Martin Luther King Day. We discussed using VolunteerSpot for all future events and having a link on our newsletter for this. We don’t want to post it on our website because then it is public. We will continue to do paper reminders. th th th Some Fundraising Night Out ideas included Culvers, Buffalo Wild Wings, Panera and Main Moon. Most businesses only allow fundraising nights on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. We concluded that Culvers would be the best option due to it being so close and having an option of a meal or just dessert. Coordinator Updates Lindsay Lamm discussed updates for Spirit Wear for our spring sale. The logo on the women’s shirts will be smaller and moved to the left side. There will no longer be a hat offered. The long-sleeved shirt will be changed to a high quality “dry fit” type shirt. There is not a girl’s fitted shirt offered. Lindsay will look into a possible tie-dye shirt for the kids and a “NFL” style hat to offer for fall. There is a blanket offered. Family Fun Night is on February 6 and the volunteer link will be sent out to all interested. There will also be another paper flyer and advance ticket order form going home. The Book Fair will also be open during Family Fun Night. Book Fair will continue through the following week. It was decided that the voucher for the kids will be increased to $6. The books for the older kids seem to be more expensive than the books for the younger grades. Most likely the total will even out. For Helpful Hearts, Andrea Wichman would like to use the library windows. She discussed sending a note home for parents to sign, so the kids can grab the hearts. The hearts would then be stapled onto the paper so they don’t get lost. It was discussed to have volunteers help with this in the morning, similar to getting the bears for the fall fundraiser. There will most likely be a board at Family Fun Night, near the prize tables. The next Scrip order is going out the end of February. The Lego Block Party will be on Thursday March 26 . Nancy Holzem updated us on the Box Tops. Mrs. Hoffa’s class is ahead in totals. The bonus certificates were done in January. We have raised about $1,500 so far. Last year we raised $3,500 total. This will be advertised again to remind parents to send in the box tops. We need to keep sending in Coke Rewards and Tyson Chicken Rewards. Kristy Cravillion will post signs for the staff to save their Coke Rewards. th th Open Coordinator Positions Market Day, which is on-going monthly through the school year. We are still in need of 3 people to job shadow the book fair in February. Fun Run coordinator is needed and that person can set the date. Meeting adjourned at 8:18 p.m. Lindsay Lamm, 2 by Kristy Cravillion nd Next Meeting: Tuesday, March 10, 2015 from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Maple Large Group Area
