Economic Modeling Project
UNC Charlotte
April 4, 2016
Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Information Technology
Fiscal Research Division
UNC Charlotte is developing an expanded economic modeling tool that is comprehensive and
incorporates information across state agencies.
UNC Charlotte has established a project team consisting of experienced economists who are
experts in the field of economic impact research at the state, regional and local level, economic
geographers, computational scientist, and a project manager to conduct the collaborative work.
The team also includes Dr. Michael Walden of NC State University.
The team has met with representatives of the Office of State Budget and Management,
Department of Transportation, and Department of Commerce. The goals and priorities have
been established as well as a timetable for next steps and a phased work plan.
A two-phase approach for the project has been developed, with Phase 1 including the
improvement of the existing economic modeling tools, and Phase 2 including a delivery of new
and additional capabilities.
UNC Charlotte has produced a Statement of Work, which is currently under review by the State
agencies.
Respectfully submitted.
