CLP Green Building Symposium
Lays Foundations for a Greener Future
CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power) today hosted its third Green Building Symposium,
inviting various corporates with successful green building performance to share ideas and
initiatives on how to make Hong Kong buildings more energy efficient. Over 300 participants
from various business sectors and representatives from the building industry took part in the
symposium. CLP Power also took the opportunity to introduce the latest technologies including
the introduction of the Meter Online upgrade service and Energy Modelling that improve energy
efficiency.
As a densely populated cosmopolitan, buildings account for some 90 per cent of Hong Kong’s
total electricity use and air conditioning accounts for nearly one third of that consumption. As
such, CLP has been committed to support the government to implement its Energy Saving Plan for
Hong Kong’s Built Environment, to promote environmental protection and energy conservation to
the business customers as well as the general public.
The theme for this year’s symposium was Energy-Wise Buildings for a Greener Future. Industry
experts from Link Asset Management Limited, the University of Science and Technology, NTT
Com Asia Limited and West Kowloon Cultural District Authority were invited to share their
experiences on how to make the building more energy efficient.
CLP Power also introduced the latest released Meter Online 3.0 upgrade service. It makes use of
district specific and hourly weather forecast from the Hong Kong Observatory as well as hourly
load profile data, to help business customers predict their daily maximum electricity demand more
accurately. With the help of the new function, customers are better able to manage their energy use
and demand, allowing them to adjust or reschedule the operation of equipment at times of peak
demand to achieve greater energy efficiency. Some 2,100 customers have already signed up for the
Meter Online service.
CLP Power Vice Chairman Mrs Betty Yuen told guests, “This is the third year CLP Power has
hosted the Green Building Symposium, which has received wholehearted support from customers
and industry experts since its launch. We are delighted to see how the symposiums have raised
awareness of energy saving and the way in which business customers have committed more
resources and effort to manage the energy consumption of their buildings.
“CLP Power will continue to act as energy saving partner of our customers, leverage our power
expertise to work with different business sectors to promote energy saving in the city.”
The Secretary for the Environment, Mr Wong Kam-sing, who was the guest of honour at today’s
event, said, “The Government has all along been promoting energy efficiency and carbon emission
1
reduction. In May this year, the Environment Bureau released the Energy Saving Plan for Hong
Kong’s Built Environment 2015~2025+ with the target of reducing energy intensity by 40%
between 2015 to 2025. We need the participation and collaboration by the public sector,
commercial and business sectors as well as the community as a whole so as to achieve energy
saving for all.”
Special booths were set up at today’s event to showcase the latest energy saving technologies and
solutions including the heating, ventilation and air-conditioning system, energy management
system, electric vehicle chargers, solar panels and the Meter Online 3.0 service to encourage
participants to take advantage of them for their businesses.
