Pre Technical Mathematics MATH 0113
Philosophy: The purpose of this course is to provide a good foundation in mathematical
concepts needed to be successful in Technical Mathematics MATH 1013.
Course Description: Computer-based course that uses online learning software to prepare
students for the math skills that are of importance in their specific field of study. Students must
show mastery for Modules 1-3 listed below. Prerequisite: none. (Credit earned not applicable
toward an Associate of Arts or an Associate of Science degree.)
Module 1: Whole Number and Decimal Number Arithmetic
Module 2: Arithmetic of Integers, Exponents, and Order of Operations
Module 3: Solve Linear Equations, Formulas, and Applications
Note: Students enrolled in MATH 0113 are encouraged to also complete other modules needed
for their specified Technical Math course and may be able to receive MATH 1013 credit
accordingly.
All students entering into Pre Technical Mathematics for the first time (or after 1 year of not
being enrolled in a Foundations of Algebra or Technical Mathematics course) must begin at
Module 1; otherwise, students may pick up where they left off in their previous Foundations of
Algebra or Pre Technical Mathematics course.
Mandatory Training: Instructors will be required to acquire adequate training before teaching
this course. Training will be necessary for using the online software program as well as for
teaching in an emporium model classroom.
Assessment Responsibilities: Instructors teaching this course will be expected to participate
in the assessment of the course as directed by the lead instructor.
