World’s Biggest Fan Roundup, Ever – Coming Soon
Vol.1
Here at ComputerGEIL.dk we’ve got something special prepared for you. In the next
few months we will be testing, reviewing, and giving a roundup of a TON of
computer fans. We’ll push them to their limits and then you can decide for yourself,
which fan is the best for you.
We’ve borrowed fans from Denmark, Hong Kong, and everything in-between. There
is a wide selection of fans, from famous makers like Acoustifan, and Vantec, as well as
many other fans; there’s a fan for everyone. Whichever fan you ever thought about
buying, it’ll probably be in here.
This is the first of many articles at ComputerGEIL.dk which is a small teaser about
what’s going to be happening in the coming months.
Why is it necessary for a massive fan roundup?
On almost every fan available, the producer company has listed some statistical
information. For example, they may tell you the noise level (dBA), the rotational
speed (RPM), and the power consumption (W).
However, each different company tests their fans in different environments, with
different equipment. This can lead to varied and skewed results.
ComputerGEIL.dk is prepared to test all the fans the exact same way, with the exact
same equipment to give an accurate reading of the specifications of each fan.
What are you going to be testing?
We’ll begin our tests with the easier measurements. Minor League stuff you could say.
We’ll measure how many rotations per minute (rpm’s from heron-in) at 5v, 7v, and
12v the fans will run at, as most standard users can easily run their fans at those
levels. For instance, one fan might run at 500rpm at 5v, while another runs at
1000rpm. This can be a quick indicator of the airflow, and noise level of the fan. But
remember, this is only an indicator, as there are many exceptions involved with fan
technology.
The next thing that we will be testing will be the push of the fan. How much air can
the fans actually move? Once again, we’ll do the comparison at different voltage
levels since it can change drastically as the voltage is changed. We will also be looking
at how much air each fan will push when running at the same rpm (not all fans run at
the same rpm at the same voltage) with a specially built device that allows us to
measure the airflow of standard fans (80mm, 92mm, 120mm).
Furthermore, we will be looking at if there is a connection between the amount of air
moved, and the noise level. Is it uniform in all fans? Of course not. We’ll be showing
you all the data so you can try to find your personal ideal; lots of air movement, with
whisper quiet operation. Does this type of fan really exist? You’ll have to read on and
find out…
The next test we’re going to do is to measure the noise level in decibels (dBA) of all
the different fans, once again at varying voltages.
The next test is more long term. We will be running the fans continuously after the
first test, and testing them again once a month. By doing this, we will be able to gain
an idea of the stamina of the fan. There’s no point in buying a whisper-quiet fan that
only remains silent for a month, now is there? In fact, we’re going to push all these
fans right to the end, and run the tests for a whole 6 months! That way, we can
hopefully crown an undisputed winner.
How many fans are we talking about then?
Without ruining the surprise, we can tell you that we’re talking about more than 50
different fans right now, and more and more are being sent in for testing. So there’s a
high possibility that anything you may be looking to buy, or already have, will be
reviewed. Maybe you’ll find out that the fan you’re always suggesting to others may
not be the best after all. This could be a real eye-opener for everyone.
What test equipment are you using?
Now that’s a completely different story, one that will be told in an upcoming article.
So visit frequently and stay tuned to ComputerGEIL.dk to find out the latest on this
massive fan review.
So pick a fan, and find out how it ranks, on the World’s Biggest Fan Roundup, Ever.
