Appendix B: The United States Environmental Protection Agency’s Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools Kit The United States Environmental Protection Agency’s (USEPA) Indoor Air Quality Tools for Schools kit (TfS kit) should be used in developing and implementing an IAQ Management Plan. The TfS kit contains useful checklists, problem solving tools, model policies and general information about indoor air quality (IAQ) that can be used in educating staff. The kit can be obtained as follows: USEPA website www.epa.gov/iaq-schools/indoor-air-quality-tools-schools-action-kit Download the mobile application from the app store for your mobile device All aspects of the TfS kit are relevant to IAQ management in Minnesota schools. Certain components of the TfS kit are directly incorporated into Minnesota Department of Health’s IAQ Management Plan Development Package. MDH recommends the following yearly activities in all school buildings. 1. Ventilation Evaluations using the TfS Ventilation Checklist or an equivalent evaluation. 2. Maintenance Evaluations using the TfS Building Maintenance Checklist or an equivalent evaluation. 3. Walkthrough Inspections using the TfS Walkthrough Checklist or an equivalent evaluation. There are other useful components of the TfS kit that should be considered, such as: 1. Teachers Classroom Checklist: may help in collecting useful information from the “users” of school rooms. 2. Checklist Backgrounders: provides useful information on how to use the checklists. 3. Checklist Log: useful tool to track the distribution, return and evaluation of checklists 4. Problem Solving Checklist & Reference Guide (Sections 4-6): should be used to document and solve problems that have been identified by the concern reports, walkthrough inspections, checklists, and preventive maintenance.
