Medicine - the heart
This is a picture of a human heart.
Find out from the Internet, Encarta or the library, how the heart pumps blood around the
body.
The heart is a dual pump. Oxygen carrying
blood leaves the left ventricle through the
aorta. It circulates through the body and
returns as deoxygenated blood to the
right auricle. The right ventricle pumps the
blood to the lungs where the carbon
dioxide is exchanged for oxygen. This
blood goes back to the heart.
