Bacteria
Define bacteria.
Bacteria are single-celled
prokaryotes. Some are autotrophs
and some are heterotrophs.
Describe the cytoplasm.
The cytoplasm is the gel-like material
inside the cell membrane.
What is the function of the
ribosomes?
The ribosomes produce proteins.
Define flagellum.
The flagellum is a whip-like structure
that helps the cell move.
Name the 3 basic shapes of
bacteria.
Shapes of bacteria:
1. spiral
2. rod-like
3. spherical
Define respiration.
Respiration is the process of breaking
down food to release its energy.
Name some of the good things
bacteria do.
Bacteria:
• produce oxygen
• are used in food production (ex/
yogurt, cheese, pickled veggies)
• are decomposers
• are useful in environmental cleanup
• are involved in health maintenance
• are used in medicine production
(ex/ insulin for those with
diabetes)
