Angle Relationships We will learn how certain pairs of angles are related. We will learn about perpendicular lines. Angle pairs: 1. Adjacent angles two angles that lie in the same plane, have a common vertex and a common side but share no interior points (they're next to each other). 2. Vertical angles two nonadjacent angles formed by intersecting lines (they're directly across from each other). 3. Linear pair a pair of adjacent angles whose noncommon sides are opposite rays (they form a straight line). 4. Complementary angles two angles whose measures have a sum of 90. 5. Supplementary angles two angles whose measures have a sum of 180. 1 Examples: Adjacent angles Vertical angles Linear pair Examples: Complementary angles Supplementary angles 2 Perpendicular lines • intersect to form 4 right angles • intersect to form congruent adjacent angles • segments and rays can be perpendicular to lines or to other line segments and rays • the symbol for perpendicular lines is Perpendicular line example Example problems: 3 Example problems: 4
