The Nutcracker
When a young boy’s snowman comes to life on Christmas Eve, the two set
off on a night-time quest for adventure. On their travels they meet dancing
penguins, reindeer and naturally, Father Christmas. Watch spellbound as the
Snowman flies through the night sky, before escaping the clutches of the evil Jack
Frost to return home for Christmas morning.
The Nutcracker is classical ballet at its most approachable and visually entrancing
– Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas without it!
Peacock Theatre

Royal Opera House
Group prices from £17.10
The stage show based on Raymond Briggs’ classic book and the subsequent film has
become a much loved festive tradition at the Peacock Theatre, and returns for a
record-breaking 16th year. Featuring Howard Blake’s Walking In the Air, performed
by a live band, choreographed by Robert North and directed by Bill Alexander, this
is the perfect Christmas treat for all the family with its wonderful mix of storytelling,
spectacle and magic.
A young girl’s enchanted present leads her to wonderful adventures and a
journey through the Land of Snow to the glittering Kingdom of Sweets. Julia
Trevelyan Oman’s designs re-create a 19th century image of the festive season,
with a family party in full swing, and include a magically growing Christmas tree
and a battle between the villainous Mouse King and an army of toy soldiers.
When Clara and Hans- Peter finally meet the Sugar Plum Fairy and her Prince,
they are presented with a sparkling series of divertissements culminating in a
grand pas de deux.
Peter Wright’s classic production brings this enchanting story vividly to life,
and Tchaikovsky’s effervescent score contains a wealth of famous melodies. A
fantastic Christmas outgoing for all family.

Best of Opera & Ballet
Tosca
Nutcracker
Opera singer Tosca’s love for artist Cavaradossi
knows no compromise. But with Rome in turmoil, the
personal becomes political. Sadistic police chief Scarpia
wants Tosca for himself – and, to his manipulative
mind, nothing could be easier than turning the very
strength of her passion to his own advantage.
Over 100 dancers and musicians bring Nutcracker
to life with exquisite dancing, beautiful sets and
Tchaikovsky’s glorious score played live. On a sparkling
Christmas Eve in a frost-dusted Edwardian London,
Clara and her enchanted Nutcracker doll discover
a magical world, where she battles with the Mouse
King and meets a handsome stranger. As the air grows
colder, Clara and her valiant Nutcracker take a hot air
balloon ride across London to the glistening Land of
Snow where her adventure really begins.
London Coliseum

Coliseum backstage tours
London Coliseum
14th December to 7th January
Groups from £9.80!
Tosca is a roller coaster story of love, lust, murder
and political intrigue. With its dramatic story line
and Puccini’s richly romantic score, it is one of the
world’s best loved operas. Set in Rome at the time
of Napoleon’s invasion of Italy, Catherine Malfitano‘s
insightful production returns to ENO. Fast-rising
soprano Keri Alkema is Tosca, with popular ENO
artist Gwyn Hughes Jones as Cavaradossi, and Craig
Colclough as Scarpia. Puccini specialist Oleg Caetani
conducts. Sung in English, with surtitles projected
above the stage.
London Coliseum
Groups 10+ only £7.40!
From the sound of the orchestra tuning up, to the final
bows and cheers, a trip to English National Ballet’s
Nutcracker in the splendour of the London Coliseum is
an unforgettable Christmas treat. Nutcracker returns in
2016 following hugely successful performances last year,
where over 73,000 audience members – young and old
– made it part of their holiday celebrations last year.
Come on a journey back to Christmas Eve, 1904, and
the dramatic events of the Coliseum’s opening night.
Learn of its rich and colourful years as a ‘Palace of
Variety’ and later, of its transformation into the Opera
House of today.
Witness for yourselves a small section of a ENO
working day. The tour is full of stories, characters,
anecdotes and facts, but its star is the theatre itself,
of course, viewed in all its glory from inside the
astonishing auditorium. The Tour, which lasts up to
an hour and a half, starts in the foyer and does an
entire circuit of the building, including the backstage
area. There are rather a lot of staircases to climb (not
suitable for people with mobility problems).
