About the Cardiac Muscle: Cardiac muscle makes up the foundation of the heart. Cardiac muscle is one of the 3 types of muscles—the others being skeletal and smooth muscle. The average human heart contracts about 70 times per minute, and that number increases with exercise. Contraction of the cardiac muscle propels blood throughout the body. We can keep our heart healthy by performing cardio exercise (exercise that increases your heart rate) daily. The cardiac muscle needs a constant supply of oxygenated blood. If there is a blood clot or plaque stopping blood flow, the cardiac muscle dies. This is a heart attack. 8600 Skyline Drive, Dallas, TX 75243 Corrigan Gym: Joyce Hall Gym: Ext. x4068 (214-355-9068) Ext. x4497 (214-355-9497) Home Exercises: Cardio Fit/Aerobics NuStep Bicycle Water Fitness Classes Walking
