Dash Out Heart Disease!
How to join:
 Pick up a training log from the wellness
department.
 Circle each daily activity that you complete during
the week. The goal is to complete at least 30
minutes of activity 5 days per week.
 Participants will be eligible for a healthy luncheon
at the end of the month!
About the Cardiac Muscle:
 Cardiac muscle makes up the foundation of
the heart.
 Cardiac muscle is one of the 3 types of
muscles—the others being skeletal and
smooth muscle.
 The average human heart contracts about 70
times per minute, and that number increases
with exercise.
 Contraction of the cardiac muscle propels
blood throughout the body.
 We can keep our heart healthy by performing
cardio exercise (exercise that increases your
heart rate) daily.
 The cardiac muscle needs a constant supply of
oxygenated blood. If there is a blood clot or
plaque stopping blood flow, the cardiac
muscle dies. This is a heart attack.
