ITINERARY
Day 1: Lisbon
Arrival at Lisbon airport and transfer to your hotel for the night.
Day 2: Lisbon/Óbidos/Alcobaça/Nazaré/Batalha/Fátima (+/- 217Km)
By a landscape rich in windmills and fruit trees, we arrive to Óbidos(stop),
surrounded by medieval walls where we can admire the harmony of the
architecture, the diversity of the handicrafts and taste the famous ginginha
(bitter cherry liqueur). Visit Alcobaça(stop) with the first and largest
gothic church in Portugal with the tombs of Don Pedro and Inês de Castro,
known by its love story. Stopping in Nazaré(stop), a typical fishing village
and seaside resort, with its traditions and legends. We continue to
Batalha(stop) - visit the Monastery of Santa Maria de Victoria, a
masterpiece of the gothic in Portugal where we can find the tomb of Henry
the Navigator, the promoter of the maritime discoveries. After we arrive to
Fátima(stop), the famous Marian Shrine. Possibility to assist the Candle

Day 3: Fátima/Coimbra/Aveiro/Oporto (+/-270Km)
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure towards Coimbra(stop) – visit of the University, one of the oldest in the
world, with its magnificent baroque library and its unique atmosphere characterized by ancient traditions
and customs such as the black cape of the students and the melancholic Fado music. Stop at St Clara
Church, where lies the tomb of Queen St. Isabel, the protagonist of the “miracle of the roses”. In the center
you can admire the exclusive ceramic of Coimbra. In the afternoon we continue to Aveiro (stop), city of

the canals, known as the “Portuguese Venice”, where you shall have time to see the graceful boats

Day 4:Oporto (+/- 25km)
Porto the 2nd city of Portugal and world heritage by UNESCO - a living amphitheatre inviting us to make a
morning visit to discover the riverside area, old houses, palaces, churches that history has made eternal
and Port wine, known worldwide. Afternoon is free. (BB)

Day 5:Oporto/ Guimarães/ Braga/ Barcelos/Oporto (+/-178Km)
Breakfast at the hotel. Full day tour to the Minho, the northwest region of Portugal, that offers natural
green sceneries and the sparkling “green wine”. Starting by Guimarães (stop) - the cradle of the nation,
birthplace of the first king of Portugal, where, walking along the
historic center for a while, one is plunged back into the medieval
times. Visit the Sacred Hill, crowned by the Castle, as well the
Palace of the Dukes of Bragança, which the original building
dates back to the 15th century. Drive to Braga (stop) known as
the "Portuguese Rome" for its concentration of religious
architecture, as the oldest Cathedral of the country, and the Bom
Jesus do Monte Sanctuary with famous baroque stairway and
gardens. After we shall continue to Barcelos(stop), an historical
city rich in popular handicraft where the Galo de Barcelos (the
rooster of Barcelos) legend was born becoming, the rooster, a
Portuguese icon. Return to Porto. (BB)
Oporto –overnight
Day 6: Oporto/Amarante/Vila Real/Douro Valley/Lamego/Viseu/Urgeiriça (+/-254Km)
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure to Amarante (stop), a pretty town proud of São Gonçalo known for the
promotion of love and marriage were the monastery facing the river houses his tomb and his lively
bustling market where you can find fruit, vegetables, chickens, cloths, and an immense variety of other
popular items. After, drive to Vila Real (stop) – visiting the gardens of the manor of Mateus, which the
façade is still depicted on the well-known Portuguese Rose wine bottles. Then we enter in the Port wine
region, travelling through the vineyards and the breathtaking landscapes of the Douro Valley. Stop in
Lamego (stop), overlooked by one of Portugal's most important shrines N.S. Remédios with its
magnificent baroque style staircase. Maybe you will try some of the local delicacies such as the local ham
or the famous “Bola de Lamego” (a loaf baked in the oven with smoked ham). Continue to the
mountainous hinterland to Viseu(stop), center of the Dão Vineyards and a city connected with Portugal´s
oldest hero, Viriato, the Lusitanian chief. In the shadow of the Cathedral, narrow streets and doorways
with coats of arms carved in granite make up the ancient town of Viseu. Along the center we find a busy
commercial area. Arrival to Urgeiriça. (BB)
Urgeiriça/Caldas da Felgueira –overnight
Day 7: Urgeiriça/Bussaco/Tomar/Lisbon (+/- 365 km)
Breakfast at the hotel. Drive through the heart of Portugal until Bussaco well known for the luxuriant
forest, made up of a selection of rare trees and plants of exotic beauty, where was built a charming and
romantic hotel, before a royal hunting lodge. We continue to Tomar.
The development of the city is closely linked to the Order of the Templars, which received these lands in
1159 as a reward for the assistance they gave Dom Afonso Henriques (the First King of Portugal) in the

Christian reconquest of the territory. It was Dom Gualdim Pais, the first Grand Master of the Order in
Portugal, who founded the castle and the remarkable Convent of Christ inside. Enlarged and altered over
the centuries, this retains the influences of various architectural styles; it is the centrepiece of the city and
classified as a World Heritage site by UNESCO. We follow the journey until Lisbon. (BB)
Lisbon- overnight
Day 8: Lisbon/Sintra/Cabo da Roca/Cascais/Estoril (+/- 90 km)
Breakfast at the hotel. Departure towards Sintra for a
luxurious day. Visit the palace of Sintra and walk through
this charming village. Enjoy the amazing view from the
westernmost point of Europe (Cabo da Roca). Along the
coast we pass by one of the most famous surfing beaches,
the incredible Boca do Inferno, the cosmopolitan Cascais
and the gardens of Estoril Casino. Return to Lisbon. (BB)
Lisbon- overnight.
Day 9: Lisbon/Evora (+/- 140 km)
One day discovering the town of Évora, mosaic of culture,
history and traditions. Leaving Lisbon, we cross the bridge
over the river Tejo where by a beautiful and bucolic
landscape of olive trees, cork oak trees and vineyards we
arrive at Évora – World Heritage of UNESCO. In the narrow
streets of the whitewashed town of Évora we walk along
visiting some of the most important monuments: the
Roman Temple, the Romanesque-gothic Cathedral, Saint
Francis Church with the “Bones Chapel“, and the
University. At the market we see and feel the richness of
the product used to prepare one of the most elaborated
and appreciated gastronomies of Portugal. Along the visit
we also admire the diversity and authenticity of local
handicraft with cork, ceramic and copper objects. Time for lunch. In the afternoon, free time for a better
discovery of the city. Our suggestion: wine, cheese and olive oil Gourmet certified. (BB)
Évora-overnight
Day 10: Evora /Beja/Silves/Lagos (+/-250Km)
Breakfast at the hotel. Part of the morning at leisure in Evora, and then driving southward, passing
Beja(stop) were the highest tower of Portuguese medieval castles dominate the town and the region. By
crossing small mountains, we enter the Algarve region. Through fields of orange trees, we arrive to
Silves(stop), the renowned town dominated by its red sandstone castle dating back mainly to Moorish
times and by the memory of his former cork industry.
Continue to the golden sands of the Algarve passing by
Praia da Rocha to Lagos. (BB) Lagos – overnight
Day 11: Lagos/Ponta da Piedade/ Sagres/Cabo de
S. Vicente/ Lagos/ Lagos (+/-140 km)
Breakfast at the hotel. The Algarve has the call of the
sea that led to the discovery of the New World. Stop in
Ponta da Piedade(stop) and admire the magnificent
view over the Atlantic Ocean, and cliffs whose shapes

have been sculpted by the erosive action of both the sea and time. Continue to Sagres(stop), a fishing port,
for a visit to the fortress was the mythical “navigation school” forever linked with the presence of Prince
Henry the Navigator during the first days of Atlantic navigation and the discovery of the African coast.
Proceeding along the cliffs to Cabo São Vincente (stop), the most southwestern point in Europe. The city
of Lagos(stop), a cosmopolitan town with marina and fishing port where you can taste the delicious
Algarve dishes, such as the fish and shellfish cooked in a copper pan (cataplana), never forgetting the fine

Day 12: Lagos/Setúbal/Serra da Arrábida/Lisbon (+/-330km)
A last look at the water while travelling along the coast, to say farewell to the Algarve. The return trip to
Lisbon will take you through the city of Setubal(stop), a major port and industrial centre on the north
bank of the Sado estuary. Then the scenic route over the Arrábida Mountain Range, an area preserved as a
Natural Park, with an amazing scenery and unique vegetation at the gates of Lisbon, and savour the
sweeping views of the Tróia Peninsula. Crossing the bridge over the Tejo River, arrival to Lisbon. (BB)

Day 1- Lisbon/Sintra/Cabo da Roca/Cascais/Estoril/Lisbon
We leave in direction of the majestic and romantic Pena
Palace, an astonishing fairytale castle, located in one of
the highest peaks of Sintra mountain range. At the end of
the morning, free time to walk through the streets of the
village of Sintra (Cultural Landscape by UNESCO). You
will see the “enchanted looking Castle” and you will
appreciate the several handicraft shops and tea-rooms
where you can taste the delicious local sweets like the
"queijadas" or the “travesseiros”. We leave for Colares, a
region recognized for its table wines, following until
Cabo da Roca, the most western point in continental
Europe, passing through the beach of Guincho until Boca
do Inferno where you can enjoy the landscape until
Cascais and take a glimpse of the fishing port. We return
to Lisbon by Estoril Coast where we can have a panoramic view of the Casino and its gardens.

Day 2: Lisbon/Óbidos/Alcobaça/Nazaré/Batalha/Fátima/Lisbon
Leaving Lisbon, we head north. Our first stop will be Òbidos, a small village surrounded by medieval
walls, with its typical whitewashed houses and wrought iron balconies, its handcraft and the famous
Pousada do Castelo. Then we go on to Alcobaça to visit the church of the Monastery (World Heritage by
UNESCO), the longest and first entire church in gothic style in Portugal, where we can admire the tombs of
Don Pedro and of D. Inês de Castro. Our lunch will be at Nazaré, the most typical and colourful Portuguese
fishing village. If possible, we go to Sítio from where we enjoy a beautiful view over the beach and the
ocean. In the afternoon we visit the wonderful church of Batalha Monastery (World Heritage by UNESCO)
a masterpiece in gothic style, with his beautiful stained-glass windows. Then we arrive at the Sanctuary of
our Lady of Fátima, centre of Christian faith and world pilgrimage to visit the Basilica with the tombs of:
Lúcia, Francisco and Jacinta; the Apparition Chapel, heart of the shrine. If possible, time to attend mass.
We return to Lisbon through a rich agricultural region. Lisbon- overnight
Day 3-Lisbon/Evora/Lisbon
One day discovering the town of Évora, mosaic of culture, history and traditions. Leaving Lisbon, we cross
the bridge over the river Tejo where by a beautiful and
bucolic landscape of olive trees, cork oak trees and
vineyards, we arrive at Évora, World Heritage of
UNESCO. In the narrow streets of the whitewashed town
of Évora, we walk along the time visiting some of the
most important monuments: the Roman Temple, the
Romanesque-gothic Cathedral, Saint Francis Church with
the “Bones Chapel“ and the University. At the market we
see and feel the richness of the products used to prepare
one of the most elaborated and appreciated
gastronomies of Portugal. Throughout the visit we also
admire the diversity and authenticity of local handicraft
with cork, ceramic and copper objects. Time for lunch.
In the afternoon we depart to Azeitão, where we visit one
of the oldest and most important wine cellars in Portugal
and, at the end of the visit we taste the traditional
Moscatel de Setúbal.

ITINERARY
On this historical tour, we follow the trail of the Knights Templar. Having arrived in Portugal in the time of
Countess Teresa, the mother of Portugal’s first king, Afonso Henriques, the Knights Templar were present
at many of the landmark moments in the history of Portugal, ranging from its foundation as a nation and
the construction of its identity through to period of maritime discoveries. The Order’s cross remains until
today, the symbol of the Portuguese Navy and Air Force. We shall be visiting monuments, reliving past
events and speaking of the figures that will open up the history of both this Order and the European
nation that has the longest standing permanent borders.

Day 1: Lisbon
Arrival at Lisbon airport and transfer to your hotel for the night.
Day 1: Lisbon | Almourol | Tomar
Leaving Lisbon, we set off for one of the most representative monuments of the Knights Templar in
Portugal: Almourol Castle. Located on a small island in the river Tagus, this is one of the Europe’s most
emblematic monuments. We then proceed onwards in the direction of the Castle and Convent of Tomar —
the Order’s own headquarters. This is undoubtedly one of the finest architectonic works existing in
Portugal. Here, we encounter the Castle with its imposing bulwark, the Charola, considered the best
preserved Templar church with a centralized layout — the enigmatic Manueline window and the main
cloister, a masterpiece of the European Renaissance. We then gain the opportunity to visit the Church of
St. John the Baptist, the matrix church of Tomar, with its original structure subject to renovation on the
orders of King Manuel, a former governor of the Order. We then move onto the Church of Santa Maria dos
Olivais. This fine example of Gothic architecture served both as the pantheon for the grand masters of the

Day 2: Tomar | Dornes | Batalha | Alcobaça| Sintra
We first start by the pretty setting of Dornes, located alongside the river Tagus. Here, we tour the Templar
Tower, also known as the Tower of Dornes. We then follow with a visit to CIBA, the Battle of Aljubarrota
Interpretation Centre. This provides the opportunity to “relive” one of the most important battles of
Medieval Europe and decisive to Portuguese unity and identity. Lopo Dias de Sousa, a canonical religious
master in the Order of Christ, proved a defining and fundamental figure in this period of history. We then
proceed to the Monastery of Alcobaça with its church containing one of the largest Cistercian abbeys in
Europe. This architectural masterpiece was built on the orders of Afonso Henriques, the founding king of
Portugal, looked after Saint Bernardo de Claraval, principal abbot in the Cistercian order and a great
mentor and driver in the Order of the Knights Templar.
We then depart in the direction of Sintra. Sintra – Hotel

Day 3: Sintra | Lisbon
We begin the day with a visit to Quinta da Regaleira, a
leading example of the Romantic architectural style and
one of the most esoteric and mysterious places in
Portugal. We reveal a few of the secrets of these
enchanting surroundings with all its neo-Templar
symbols such as the initiation well. We then visit the
Tower of Belém, the Portuguese monument that
symbolizes the era of the Discoveries and the National
Navy Museum. Here, we gain the chance to see into, with
the help of two of the governors of the Order of Christ,
Prince Henry the Navigator and King Manuel, what was
certainly the most splendid period in the history of Portugal that, as the Poet himself affirmed, gave new
worlds to the World. End of our services.
