Short title
This regulation may be cited as the Ambulance Service Amendment
Regulation (No. 2) 2001.

Commencement
This regulation commences on 1 October 2001.

Regulation amended
This regulation amends the Ambulance Service Regulation 1991.

Replacement of s 4 (Subscriptions)
Section 4—
omit, insert—
‘4
Subscriptions
‘(1) Subscriptions for the categories of subscriptions mentioned in
schedule 1 are payable at the rates mentioned below the categories for the
periods mentioned opposite the amounts of the subscriptions in the
schedule.
‘(2) If a subscriber pays a family subscription or a family veteran
subscription, the subscription covers the subscriber’s family.
‘(3) A subscriber may not pay a family veteran or single veteran
subscription for a weekly or fortnightly period.
‘(4) A subscriber may pay a subscription for a monthly period only by a
direct debit from an account held with a financial institution.
‘(5) A subscriber may pay a subscription for a weekly period only by a
deduction made by the subscriber’s employer from the subscriber’s
earnings.’.

Amendment of s 4A (Certain persons exempt from payment of
charges for the use of ambulance services—Act, s 2, definition
“subscriber”)
Section 4A—
renumber as section 4C.

Insertion of new ss 4A and 4B
After section 4, as replaced—
insert—
‘4A Subscriptions for long irregular periods
‘(1) Despite section 4(1), a subscription may be paid for a period not
mentioned in the schedule that is longer than 3 months and shorter than
3 years (a “long irregular period”).
‘(2) A subscription for a category for a long irregular period is to be
calculated using the following formula—
SLIP = SSP x LIP/SP
where—
“LIP” means the long irregular period.
“SLIP” means the amount of the subscription for the category for the long
irregular period.
“SP” means the longest period stated in the schedule that is shorter than
the long irregular period.
“SSP” means the amount of the subscription for the category for the
longest period stated in the schedule that is shorter than the long
irregular period.
‘4B Subscriptions for short irregular periods
‘(1) Despite section 4(1), a subscription may be paid for a period not
mentioned in the schedule that is longer than 1 week and shorter than 3
months (a “short irregular period”).

‘(2) A subscription for a category for a short irregular period is to be
calculated using the following formula—
SSIP = WS x NOW
where—
“NOW” means the number of weeks in the short irregular period rounded
up to the nearest whole week.
“SSIP” means the amount of the subscription for the category for the short
irregular period.
“WS” means the amount of the subscription for the category for a weekly
period.
‘(3) Despite section 4(3), for the calculation under subsection (2)—
(a) the amount payable for a family veteran subscription for a
weekly period is taken to be the amount payable for a family
subscription for a weekly period; and
(b) the amount payable for a single veteran subscription for a weekly
period is taken to be the amount payable for a single subscription
for a weekly period.’.
