PHYSICIST • Biophysicist - A physicist who applies the methods of physics to biology. • Particle physicist - A physicist who deals with subatomic particles. • Geophysicist – One who studies the movement of the earth and its environment, including the physics of fields such as meteorology, oceanography, and seismology. • Nuclear physicist - One who studies the forces, reactions, and internal structures of atomic nuclei. • Astronomer – One who scientifically studies the matter in outer space, especially the positions, dimensions, distribution, motion, composition, energy, and evolution of celestial bodies and phenomena. • Physics Professor – One who teaches physics at a college or university. • Space Scientist – A scientist who deals with the problems of space flight. ENGINEER • Aerospace engineer – One who is concerned with the development, design, construction, testing, and operation of airplanes and spacecraft. • Biomedical engineer – One who applies engineering technology to the solution of medical problems; examples are the development of prostheses, such as artificial valves for the heart, various types of sensors for the blind, and automated artificial limbs. • Chemical engineer – An engineer involved with the technology of large-scale chemical production and the manufacture of products through chemical processes. • Civil engineer - An engineer trained in the design and construction of public works, such as bridges or dams, and other large facilities. • Electrical engineer – An engineer who deals with the technology of electricity, especially the design and application of circuitry and equipment for power generation and distribution, machine control, and communications. • Mechanical engineer – An engineer involved in the generation and application of heat and mechanical power and the design, production, and use of machines and tools. COMPUTER SCIENTIST • Computer programmer - One who writes computer programs. • Systems analyst – One who is responsible for researching, planning and recommending software and system choices to meet an organization’s business requirements. NUCLEAR SCIENTIST • Nuclear physicist – One who studies the forces, reactions, and internal structures of atomic nuclei. • Nuclear medicine technologist – One who works closely with a nuclear medicine physician. FORENSIC SCIENTIST • Forensic scientist: One who examines objects, substances (including blood or drug samples), chemicals (paints, explosives, toxins), tissue traces (hair, skin), or impressions (fingerprints or tidemarks) left at the crime scene.
