In preparation for the 51st PIHOA meeting on NCD’s , please complete the following information prior to

1. What is the name of your organization?
Cancer Council of the Pacific Islands
2. What is the mission of your organization?
Improve the health and welfare of the people of the Pacific Islands through the development of
programs and best practices activities and education, cancer program planning and outreach.
Comprehensive Cancer Control (CCC) Programs are required to engage community stakeholders to
develop and implement a comprehensive strategic plan addressing priority issues across the entire
spectrum of cancer control {prevention, early detection, treatment, quality of life/survivorship and
data}.
CCC Programs are required to engage a broad-based, multisectoral, community-based coalition to
develop, implement and inform changes/updates to the CCC plan.
Stakeholders typically include community members, cancer survivors or their family/caregivers,
faith-based leaders, youth / youth programs, traditional leaders, representatives from t he
education, business, finance sectors, public health and clinical providers, legislators and policy
makers, NGO/non-profit entities involved in addressing chronic disease risk factors and/or cancer.

4. What is the budget of your organization?
CDC National Comprehensive Cancer Control (CCC) Program funds each of the six USAPI for their
jurisdiction CCC programs.
Jurisdiction CCC programs back-contract to the University of Hawaii to coordinate implementation
the Regional CCC program and serve as the Secretariat
Direct Budget ~$180,000-185,000 annually  $950,876 from 2007-2012
Implementation of more objectives of the Regional CCC plan is funded through CDC funding to the
Pacific Regional Central Cancer Registry (PRCCR), Pacific Center of Excellence in the Elimination
of Disparities (PCEED) and leveraging of other National Partnership for CCC and Federal in-kind
resources. (CCPI is Advisory Body to all Pacific Regional Cancer Programs)
Pacific Regional Central Cancer Registry 2007-2012: $2,836,301
Pacific Center of Excellence in the Elimination of Disparities 2007-2012: $4,232,852
HPV / Cervical cancer project 2010-2012: $69,000
External in-kind and leveraged funding 2007-2012: $1,848,500
Total CDC funding, 5 years (2007-2012): $8,089,029
5. Who qualifies as a member?
 Two voting Directors per jurisdiction are designated by the highest ranking Health Official – one
representing the public health sector, the other representing the clinical sector.
o In the case of American Samoa, the CEO of LBJ Hospital designates the Clinician CCPI
Director
o For RMI, one Director is from Majuro, the other from Ebeye
 One non-voting observer from FSM National
 (to be voted upon at the Spring 2012 meeting: each Jurisdiction CCC program coordinator)
The designates for Board members should be individuals actively involved in the care of cancer
patients (clinicians), and administration of public health programs dealing with cancer or risk
factors. Ideally, those individuals should hold positions of influence within their organizations
and be willing to serve as change agents.
o CCPI members have included Chiefs/Vice-Chiefs of Medical Staff, Directors of Public Health
Divisions/Bureaus, formal or functional NCD Program Administrators, Breast & Cervical
Cancer screening program coordinators, physicians (primary care and surgeons),
chemotherapy nurses, Medical Directors of CHC
The jurisdiction CCC program coordinators collectively form an advisory committee to the CCPI.

7. When was your organization founded?
Pacific Cancer Initiative started/first funded in 2002
CCPI as a formal organization started in 2003
Incorporated as 501(c)(3) in Honolulu in 2006
8. Does your organization have a strategic plan? Yes

We will bring the summation of the 2012-2017 Regional CCC Plan and a few copies of the 20072012 Regional CCC Plan
9. When was the last time your association met?
November 9-12, 2012 in Guam. The CCPI is required to have at least two meetings per year.
10. Do you have any organizational plans, brochures, or meeting reports that you can share? Yes
