WHICH PLANT GROWS WHERE?
Read the clues, then match the plant to its habitat.
Kelp
My fronds are brown and tough
and rubbery. I anchor myself to
rocks with a fibrous 'root' called a
holdfast. I do not have flowers. I
live in ...........
Heather
I grow close to the ground because
I am often grazed by animals, and
the strong winds that blow across
this bleak place would blow down
a tall plant. I live on ..............
Primrose
I grow in shelter of large woody
plants, so I flower in spring when I
can still feel the sun on my petals.
Hedgerow
Sheltered from wind and grazing
animals small tender plants can
grow underneath the woody hedge.
Spring blossoming plants flower
under the hedgerow before the sun
is blocked by leaves on the hedge.
Moorland
Windy and cold in winter. Plants
have to endure harsh conditions on
moorland. Low growing plants do
well here as they are not flattened
by the wind.
Wetlands
Boggy, wet land where you would
need to wear your wellies. This
habitat supports many strange
looking plants which have adapted
to the marshy environment.
Sea
A rough environment to live in.
The swell of the tides means that
plants living underwater need to
anchor themselves firmly. They
need a rubbery, waterproof texture
to survive when immersed in
strong salty water.
