Reinforce student learning by asking questions such as:
• What do you notice? • How do you know? • Why do you think that?
• Have you ever seen anything like this before? Thank you for being a Museum chaperone!

Learn about the Solar System
Cosmic Light
Charles Hayden Planetarium
Red Wing, Level 1
Red Wing, Level 1
Large-scale color photographs of celestial objects offer a window
on the universe, revealing the births and deaths of stars, the
vastness of space, and the stunning light of our Sun. Gain a
physical understanding of our solar system, and how our
infinitesimal planet compares to our stellar neighbors, nearby
galaxies, and beyond.
Explore the Solar System (Grades 3 – 5)
Explore our beautiful solar system including the Sun, planets, moons,
and newly discovered objects that are changing the way we view our
neighborhood in space.
Separate timed ticket required.
Explore the Galaxy (Grades 6 – 8)
Witness the lives and deaths of stars, hear about newly discovered
solar systems, and experience firsthand the size and scale of the
Milky Way as we explore our home galaxy in space.
Starting Points:
• Compare the size and location of different planets in the solar system. How long would it take to get there?
Starting Points:
• What kinds of objects are in a solar system? A galaxy?
• What is it like on each planet’s surface?

• What are some differences between stars and planets?

Cahners ComputerPlace
Blue Wing, Level 1
Blue Wing, Level 1
Learn about NASA’s Apollo program that sent 20 people into space,
including the first humans to set to foot on the Moon. Crawl into the
“Apollo Command Module,” and watch the first Moon landing from the
cockpit seats!
Discover the many different ways that computers and robots can
help us learn about our world. Program a Mars Rover and explore
the challenges engineers face when designing robots to investigate
other planets.
Starting Points:
• What are some of the challenges that scientists faced
while trying to get to the Moon?
Starting Points:
• Why might we want to investigate the surfaces of other planets?
• How do you think these models compare to the types of technologies astronauts are using now?
• What can a Mars Rover do differently than an astronaut?
