Welcome to the Bon Secours Hospital, Cork
The Bon Secours Hospital, Cork is one of the
largest independent Catholic hospitals in Europe
with 332 beds, employing over 826 staff. The
hospital was founded by the Bon Secours
Sisters in 1915. The hospital has continually
developed over the past 93 years and has a
proud tradition of providing patient focused acute
medical care in Cork. The hospital is a state-ofthe-art facility providing a significant portion of the
total acute medical, surgical and specialist care
needs of the Cork region.

The Breast Care Services have been
operating here in the Bon Secours Hospital,
Cork for over 30 years and has its own
dedicated Breast Care Nurse Specialist. A
Multidisciplinary Team approach ensures all
cases are reviewed and the appropriate
follow-up determined. Urgent and non-urgent
referrals will be seen for Triple Assessment on
the designated days, Tuesdays and Fridays in
the Out-Patients Department. All referrals to
the Breast Care Services can be made directly
through the Consultant or the Breast Care
Nurse Specialist. Letters of referral are
required, and should be Faxed to

confirmed by phone.

The Bon Secours Hospital, Cork is pleased to
announce the installation of the first 64 Slice
CT scanner in the Cork region, indeed the
first for this vendor in Ireland. This scanner
utilises the most sophisticated CT detector
available and industry leading technologies to
deliver extreme diagnostic power. With high
speed scanning it offers unsurpassed image
quality at the fastest speed at potentially
reduced radiation, to impact both specialised
applications and routine scans.

invasive cardiac and coronary vessel
evaluation not previously possible.

The Intensive and Coronary Care Unit is a
nine bed combined unit which prides itself on
continuous modernisation and development
utilising the latest techniques, treatments and
equipment to provide the highest possible
standards of care. The Unit caters for a wide
range of medical and surgical conditions, from
Acute Coronary Syndrome to Post Operative
Care following major surgery. We also provide
invasive and non invasive respiratory therapies
and renal support to the critically ill. The
department is operated 24/7 and accepts
emergency admissions.

appropriate time frames.
Weekly Multidisciplinary Team meetings
are held where Surgeons, Oncologists,
Histopathologists, Radiologists, Nurses
and Pharmacists discuss best possible
treatment plans for patients.

by Cunamh (cancer support group),
