Dr. Peter Kinirons, Consultant Neurologist and Clinical Neurophysiologist works in consultation with you to understand, investigate, diagnose and manage your neurological symptoms. As an inpatient you will receive the highest standard of clinical care. Referrals can be made to the multidisciplinary team. Nursing Care is provided by a dedicated team of experienced nurses led by clinical nurse managers. There is a commitment to excellent care based on your individual needs. The Neurology Nurse Specialist provides additional support and information to patients and their families with a focus on the latest evidence based practice for neurological conditions. Neurophysiology Department The Neurophysiology Department offers a comprehensive range of diagnostic tests for the range of neurological and neurophysiologic disorders: routine and prolonged video EEG, nerve conduction studies and EMG. Diagnostic Imaging Department The latest diagnostic imaging is available, CT, CT angiogram, MRI, MR angiogram and Ultra Sound Scanning. Multidisciplinary Team Dietetics The dietitian will provide you with information on nutrition that can assist you in maintaining optimal health and wellness. We work in both inpatient and outpatient settings to provide you with ongoing support. Speech and Language Therapy The speech and language therapist provides education and therapy for disorders of communication, voice and swallowing. After assessment a treatment plan is made to assist you. Physiotherapy The neurological physiotherapists are Bobath trained. Following a thorough assessment, the treatment plan focuses on your individual needs and goals. Ongoing treatment is available as an outpatient. Gait and balance training including falls prevention. Stretching, strengthening and postural awareness. Vestibular rehabilitation, facial weakness. Respiratory assessment if indicated. Neck and back pain. Headache. Occupational Therapy The occupational therapist provides assessment and offers treatment to help you meet your everyday needs to ensure your continued independence. This includes: Retraining in activities of daily living (ADL's) such as grooming, bathing, feeding, handwriting, meal preparation and domestic tasks. Activities to improve cognitive functioning, including memory and visual perception. Splinting the hand and upper limb to manage spasticity and maintain range of motion. Home assessment to offer advice on equipment and safety at home. Pre-driving skills assessment and re-training in work related activities. Pharmacy The pharmacist reviews your medication and medication history and liaises with the medical and nursing staff to ensure safe and optimal prescribing and use of medication for you. The pharmacist will also provide information and advice on medications. Discharge Planning The plan for discharge starts when you are admitted to ensure a safe discharge that meets your individual needs. The Discharge & Transfer Coordinator provides information and support.
