IDS Press Conference 2011 Prof. Dr. Nezar Watted, Jatt/Jerusalem, Israel MI Paste PLUS – Extended advantages for patients undergoing Orthodontic Treatment GC has always paid particular attention to the scientific and clinical efficacy of its products. MI Paste PLUS is a good example of this: This unique fluoridated product, containing the active ingredient RecaldentTM, has been proven to play a key role in remineralisation and caries prophylaxis in numerous studies. Recently, research has also shown that the use of MI Paste PLUS during orthodontic treatment can not only treat but prevent white spot lesions. White spots indicate the initial formation of carious lesions which can become visible either during or after orthodontic treatment. Scientific literature about this widespread condition has revealed that initial lesions occur on more than 37 percent of teeth during orthodontic treatment. Other studies document white spot prevalence of up to 60 percent in patients during orthodontic treatment. Scientific evidence has proven that MI Paste PLUS counteracts demineralisation of teeth, which prevents white spots from occurring. The answer to this lies in CPP-ACP (Casein Phosphopeptide – Amorphous Calcium Phosphate), the active ingredient which delivers bio-available calcium and phosphate ions to the teeth and oral environment. In the process, the remineralising effect of this dental topical paste treats initial carious lesions, thus rendering it an effective tool for successful white spot management. The combination of active ingredients allows minerals to penetrate deep into initial lesions. In addition, Recaldent TM is biocompatible, so MI Paste PLUS prevents the formation of initial caries naturally. MI Paste PLUS can be integrated into treatment procedures in orthodontic practices easily and efficiently – and allows for long-term white spot management.
