Consumer Products Application Golf Balls in a Tray Problem A golf ball manufacturer was having issues with golf balls missing in a tray. Standard photoelectric sensors checking for the presence of the golf balls gave inconsistent readings due to variation in the position of the tray. Constant adjustment of the photoelectric sensors was also an issue. Solution A Checker® vision sensor was installed. Checker was set up to operate with an external trigger. Checker places multiple brightness sensors as inspection points. The size of the sensors was set to overcome variations in the position of the tray. The sensors inspect the points for the presence of the golf balls. Through Ladder Logic, the customer was able to distinguish exactly which golf balls were missing in the tray. Results Typical Hardware for This Application Checker was able to deliver consistent and reliable readings improving quality control and lowering costs. Checker’s flexibility with job changes allowed the customer to complete product changeover quickly lowering costs. • Checker 202 – CKR-202-002 • Mounting bracket – CKR-200-BKT • SensorView 350 – SV-350-000 • I/O Box – CKR-200-IOBOX-002 • Lens kit – CKR-200-LENSKIT Reference Information • Checker Reference Guide • Checker Solutions Brochure • Checker Product Guide All Golf Balls Present Sensors Used Brightness Sensors – Circles Two Golf Balls Missing 312 Consumer Products Application Golf Balls in a Tray x x Application Setup Mounting (Approximate) Input / Output This application uses an external I/O Box, ladder logic, and an external trigger. • External trigger (as input) • Outputs 1 - 4 indicate which Golf Ball is missing • All Pass is Output 5 10” Outputs may be fed into a PLC.
