September 2016 Dear Parent/ Carer The Geography department is delighted to offer a 5 day Key Stage 3 trip to Iceland to study and experience the impact that plate tectonics has on this unique country. This will provide the opportunity to visit the “Land of Fire and Ice”. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to visit a country where two of the earth’s tectonic plates meet. To see active volcanoes; observe active geysers with areas of steam vents, hot springs and beautiful turquoise blues; visit Þingvellir National Park, a World Heritage site; take a ferry to the island of Heimaey with its active volcano and museum. The tour will be organised with Rayburn Travel which is fully bonded with ABTA. They have worked with many schools and youth groups, and have a wealth of experience organising school parties. The trip will run in (29th May – 2ndJune), and is now open to any student in Years 7, 8 and 9. Please note that we cannot confirm exact dates until the flights are scheduled. We will inform all parents of the dates when they have been confirmed by Rayburn Travel. Flights will be with either Iceland Air or EasyJet from Manchester Airport and arrangements will be made for transport to and from the airport. Confirmation of places will be notified to students by Mrs Myers and Mr O’Donnell. You will then be required to to secure your child’s place. Payment for this trip can be made online through ParentPay (www.parentpay.com). Please tick the consent box for this trip. Payment schedule is as follows: *Interim Deposit *Final balance *Please feel free to pay this in instalments of your choosing via ParentPay throughout the year, as long as the specific deadlines are met. Please do think carefully before making a commitment to this trip. If you do wish to withdraw your son/daughter at a later date there may be a student willing to take the place, but please understand the position if this is not the case. The Tour firm will not refund the first two deposits once paid and the tour firm operates a sliding penalty once the final balance has been paid, depending on time remaining (monies can be reclaimable through the insurance company due to illness or redundancy only). We will do our best on your behalf; however loss of all or part of your deposits can result.
