Nathaniel Hawthorne once said that “time flies over us but leaves its shadow behind”.
Here we are about to bid farewell to summer and looking back at the long shadow
time has cast since our last newsletter! We’ll cover a lot of ground as we look back at
some highlights of Season 90 and look ahead to a fantastic Season 91! Let’s jump in!
~ The Editor
Celebrating Our Volunteers!
Season 90 and Season 91 came together on one special evening in June as we hosted
our annual Volunteer Appreciation Gala on the 17th at the Regina Performing Arts
Centre. Members and friends of RLT gathered to enjoy snacks & bevvies, celebrate the
fantastic season that had been, get a sneak peek of the season to come and of course,
say a very special “Thank You” to our amazing volunteers!
Representing those amazing volunteers were five in particular who received awards
acknowledging the hard work they have done, mostly behind-the-scenes, to make RLT
a success.

Our Newest Life Member: JOAN MILLER
Joan is one of RLT’s most loyal heroes…or should we say ‘sheroes’? She has
been an active participant since the late ‘70’s. She is an actor (although it has been
far too long since she’s graced our stage!), a producer, a director (a role we hope
she’ll take on for us in the near future) and a selfless volunteer. Through her skills
with web design, we have a current, engaging website along with several other
organizations she volunteers with. When help is needed in the kitchen for the one
acts, who do we call? When extra bodies are needed for a chorus, who do we call?
When a sounding board is needed, one which is logical and fair, whom do we call?
Joan! Thank you, Joan, for everything you do for RLT! This award is long overdue
but we hope you’ll accept this honour as our meagre thanks for your years of
dedication to this organization we love so much!
“The Sammie”: BONNIE SENGER & BRYCE SCHLAMP
The Sampson J. Goodfellow Award was presented to two very deserving recipients.
Bonnie Senger is first and foremost a friend. Literally, a friend to everyone.
You’ll hear only praise for this hard-working, enthusiastic volunteer. She doesn’t
care about the limelight, although, to be honest, she shines in it each and every time
she treads the boards. But more than that, she is a caring and compassionate human
being who sets the needs of others before her own, especially when it comes to our
productions. Actor, prompter, props mistress, set mover, dead body (a farting one
to be exact!) are only a few of the skills this volunteer so happily shares with RLT
(the corpse playing, not the farting. It was a fart machine…most nights). She is one
of our behind-the-scenes superheroes and we could not be prouder to call her
friend.
Bryce Schlamp has been involved with RLT for 10 years and in that time he has
given his heart and soul to over 20 plays. He is a
visionary who’s gifted with, imagination,
dedication and creativity. These are only a few of
his qualities and strengths that demonstrate that
theatre is thriving in our community. As many of
us know, being a volunteer for any community
involvement is very time consuming.

From the President…
Our 90th season finished off with a very successful year. The Thirty-Nine Steps
was well received with attendance breaking previous levels for the February show.
Nora Berg, Pat Wilson and Jolie Brewer brought together a fabulous ensemble of
actors supported by an able crew. They certainly did justice to this timeless classic of
intrigue and of multiple characters successfully portrayed by just four actors.
Amazing!
Our Spring One Act Cabaret was well attended & was great fun. Congratulations
to Bryce Schlamp along with directors John Chaput, Stacey Paus and David Warford
along with their casts and crew for providing two evenings of great entertainment.
John Chaput directed the touching play, The Old Lady Shows Her Medals. This play
was the first presentation by Regina Little Theatre in 1926 and was presented as a
tribute to our 90th seasons of entertaining audiences. Nora Berg and crew did a
wonderful job of providing excellent food as usual and Cathy Moberly and her Front of
House volunteers came through and provided help wherever needed.
Sinners was the fourth production of the season. Glen Butz and Susan Holmes
with their cast and crew presented four splendid evenings of zaniness. I loved every
minute of it! Not only did our audiences enjoy this farce but it also received much
recognition at the Theatre Saskatchewan Festival (TheatreFest 2016) which was held
in Moose Jaw in April. We are so proud of this group! You can read about their many
awards on page 4.
This phenomenal season was capped off with the presentation of the timeless
classic Harvey. Directed by Brad Graham and ably stage-managed by Peter Bruce,
Harvey helped shine the spotlight on mental illness with gentle humour. The cast and
crew did an excellent job and I received many compliments regarding how much our
audiences enjoyed the production.
The Appreciation Gala was the best attended since its incorporation! It was
wonderful to see so many interested in Regina Little Theatre and wanting to share the
appreciation of the many volunteers, members, patrons and sponsors it takes to make
RLT one of a kind.
Our Annual General Meeting is coming up on September 20. Do come out and
find out what it took to have a successful season, learn of our plans for next season
and don’t miss an opportunity to serve on our board. Elections of the president, vicepresident, treasurer, secretary and five members-at-large will be held.
I hope to see you all there.
Masks & Faces ~ January - September ~ Vol. 74 No. 3 & 4 AND Vol. 75 No. 1 ~ Page 14
So far this year, RLT has contributed to the success of many
other productions in and around Regina, whether by providing
resources (such as props and/or costumes) or through some of our
members taking part in these other shows. These very successful
productions have included:
Jekyll & Hyde and The Full Monty (Sterling Productions)
The Addams Family (Regina Lyric Musical Theatre)
Masks & Faces ~ January - September ~ Vol. 74 No. 3 & 4 AND Vol. 75 No. 1 ~ Page 3
However, in some miraculous way, Bryce has managed to audition and act in several
plays, to direct main stage and one acts, to stage-manage, to participate in provincial
theatre competitions (both one acts and full length) and hold a full time job at the
same time. Not impressed yet? Can you also say that on top of this, you’ve directed 2
full length movies, been part of a massive choir that sang Carmina Burana at the
Conexus Arts Centre, been part of the RLT play selection committee AND built a new
home? Want more? In the last 8 years the man became a father not once but twice,
and has a third child on the way! If you haven’t had a chance to meet Bryce, we
encourage you to do so. You’re going to meet a man that is very intelligent, a humble
artist, kind-hearted, open-minded, funny, witty and yet somewhat shy. Those of us
who know him will agree and couldn’t be happier to award him the Sammie!
The Producers (Regina Summer Stage)
The Freddie: TIANNA EUTENEIER & PAT WILSON
The Drowsy Chaperone (Prairie Skies Musical Theatre Company)
The Fred Gallagher Award was also presented to a pair of wonderful individuals!
Plus many different school productions!
Tianna Euteneier has spent more than half of her life as a RLT volunteer! She
began volunteering with front of house the beginning of the 2008-09 season and has
been a constant over the past eight seasons greeting the Saturday evening patrons
with a big smile and a program and helping with canteen. In 2009-10 and 2010-11 she
caught the acting bug and was in Fruitcakes and A Christmas Carol. During the
Christmas matinées you will see her as Santa’s trusty sidekick, providing candy canes
to the children. And she of course our very own ‘Vanna’, making the raffle draws. She
is the ‘heart and smile’ of RLT!
Regina Little Theatre is thrilled to be a part of the vibrant and growing theatre
community in Regina and area and we are delighted when the opportunity arises to
support our extended theatre family!
What kind of play would YOU like to see?

Pat Wilson is one talented volunteer. She is generous with her knowledge and is
always ready to mentor the next generation of stage manager or set decorator.
Probably one of the most intelligent, knowledgeable people we have the pleasure of
knowing, we are always grateful for her involvement with RLT. She is another one of
the people who work tirelessly behind the scenes. She’s been in front of the scenes a
few times, too, and shines there as well. Honestly, there is nothing this remarkable
woman can’t do. We are honoured to have as a member of RLT and to recognize the
tireless work she has done as a stage manager, set decorator, play selection committee
member, source of knowledge, prop room tamer and much more!

Season 90 - the second half!
Give a Gift ~ Leave a Legacy
Canada’s oldest all-volunteer community theatre group keeps getting better with
age and Season 90 was no exception! Here’s a look at the shows from the second half
of the season that made us laugh and touched our hearts!
February: Hilarious Hitchcock!
Our “winter warm-up” show was the deliriously funny
spoof of classic Hitchcock films, The 39 Steps. With a minimal
set, director Nora Berg, stage manager Pat Wilson, the crew
and the cast of four re-created multiple & drastically different
locations across England and Scotland, among them the exterior of a moving train, a ramshackle cottage on the Scottish
moors and the London Palladium! And did we mention that between the four of them,
the cast brought over 100 different characters to life?! This whodunit mystery
combined with classic Hitchcock-ian moments and whacky Monty Python-esque
humour to create a show that kept audiences guessing and splitting their sides
laughing! As one patron told the director following a performance: “That was the
stupidest show I’ve ever seen… and I loved it!”
April: Sinfully good fun!
Director Glen Butz (helming his first main stage with
RLT) and stage manager Susan Holmes brought us
Canadian playwright Norm Foster’s dark comedy,
Sinners. With an unplanned murder, unexpected plot
twists and unforgettable characters, audiences were once
again laughing out loud as “the other man” (played by
Kevin Rispler) tries desperately to extricate himself from much more than his initial
affair with a minister’s wife!
Sinners was also RLT’s entry in TheatreFest, the provincial full-length play
festival, held this year in Moose Jaw, April 18-23. The show was very well received and
took home several awards: Runner-Up to the Winning Entry, Runner-Up Best Director
(Glen Butz), Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Nora Berg), the Margaret Corbett
Aspirant Award (Jolie Brewer), Technical Merit, Meritorious Enterprise & Honourable
Mentions to Kevin Rispler (Best Actor) and Mike Smith (Best Supporting Actor).
Regina Little Theatre owes its decades of success to the extraordinary
generosity of countless individuals who perhaps never graced our stage, yet
who made a tremendous difference to us and to theatre in Regina as a whole
by leaving legacy gifts in their wills and estate plans.
These individuals have demonstrated that kindness is evident in people from
all walks of life – with different income levels, professions and passions.
Because of their love of life and concern for others, their memories will never
be extinguished and their gifts will remind us all that we, too, can make a
difference in lives that follow.
Please consider Regina Little Theatre as part of your estate planning.
Thank you!

Rounding out Season 90 was a classic story full of
humour and heart: Harvey. Many people know the film
starring the legendary James (Jimmy) Stewart as the main
character, Elwood P. Dowd. Our own James (James Park)
took on this role, surrounded by a cast of experienced
RLT’ers and some wonderful newcomers to our stage!
Directed by Brad Graham and stage managed by Peter Bruce,
they creatively used the interchangeable parts of their set to
evoke both a mansion and the interior of a mental institution,
creating a framework in which we got to know the endearing
Elwood, his best-friend Harvey and the eccentric people
surrounding him. Typically, Elwood is portrayed as a loveable
drunk but director Brad wanted to take a different route, portraying Elwood as
perhaps the only truly sane person in the group, while all the other supposedly
“normal” people seemed to have the real issues. This effective approach put the whole
story in a new light and challenged the audience to consider their preconceived notion
of what constitutes mental wellness, all the while sweeping them up in laughter and
charm. The show also featured one of RLT’s youngest crew members ever: 11-year-old
Brenna Park made her debut backstage, contributing enthusiastically to the overall
success of the show. She already made her on-stage debut at the Spring One Acts just
the month before! Congratulations to one and all!
Join the Fun and Make History!
Regina Little Theatre is the oldest all-volunteer
community theatre group in Canada!
We are excited to present outstanding plays every season but the key to our success
lies in the many helping hands that work together on stage and off. And that’s where

Scholarship Opportunity
Our Spring One Acts Cabaret was a rousing
success with three very different & equally great
plays!
Did you know that RLT offers scholarships
to its members in good standing?
Tyler Toppings and Jean Taylor
rehearsing The Old Lady Shows Her
First up was a very special piece, The Old
Medals.
Lady Shows Her Medals. In recognition of
RLT’s 90th anniversary, it was decided to re-mount one of our very first plays. This
piece was originally performed in November of 1926 on the playbill of the very first
performance ever staged by Regina Little Theatre! Ninety years later, director John
Chaput took on the task of adapting the script for modern audiences. The result was a
heart-touching look back at the First World War and the effect it had on English
society and one elderly lady in particular. With it’s share of laughs (and a musical
number by director John!), the play nonetheless left audiences wiping away tears at its
poignant conclusion. RLT was very proud to re-produce this show and we extend our
thanks & congratulations to John, stage manager Angèle Poirier and the very talented
cast for proving that good theatre never gets old!
Next was a drama/comedy, Death Takes the Train. Directed by first-time director
Stacey Paus joined by stage manager Devin Melnyk, this play took a look at people’s
thoughts and feelings about death as the Grim Reaper joins a collection of passengers
taking the train. By turns funny and unnerving, the show had audiences laughing and
ultimately jumping out of their seats with a sudden, shocking ending. Well done!
The final show of the night was Drugs are Bad. A hilarious spoof of “after-school
specials”, the story centred on parents Harold & Delores confronting their teenage
daughter Brandy about something they found in
her bedroom; an algebra book! What other dark
secrets has she been keeping from them? And
what dark secrets from Mom & Dad’s past might
be exposed? Audiences laughed loud & long as
eternal rebels Harold & Delores extolled the
virtues of sex, drugs & rock & roll to their straight
Lauren Lavoie, Mike Scott & Erickka -A, straight-laced daughter. Kudos to all involved
Patmore rehearsing Drugs Are Bad for making something bad into something great!

October 28 & 29
A comedy by Sean Grennan ~ Directed by David Warford
You and Me on a Boat and You’re Smiling
Produced by special arrangement with Playscripts, Inc.
Written and directed by Nathan Pylypuk
October 5 ~ 8
Nathan has graced the stage for both RLT and Regina Summer Stage and now is
presenting his own original play, recently featured at the Regina Fringe Festival!
A group of middle-aged buddies reunite for a "guys weekend” at the cottage to drink
beer and party like it’s 1979. Despite divorce, unemployment and a stroke, spirits are
high until Jessie, the wife of absent friend Adrian, shows up in his place. What is she
doing there? An epic battle of wits and stamina ensues: Will the men win their right to
an all-out guy fest or will women be crowned the stronger sex after all? And will
Adrian ever get there?
Meet the characters!
T.J. (played by Mike Scott): The “alpha male” of the group. Boisterous, largerthan-life, the ringleader and self-proclaimed life of any party. He is under pressure at
work to step down in favour of someone younger and so he is trying to act and appear
much younger than he really is. This weekend is about re-capturing the lost magic of
youth… and drinking to forget the stress!
MARK (played by Howard DeLong): The typical nice guy, he is the “middle
child” of the group, always trying to keep things smooth and often overlooked despite
his brains and talent as a professional writer. He too has his troubles and is here to
forget for a little while.
RICHARD (played by John Chaput): The athletic one of the group, of all of them
he seemed to have it all… and then recently suffered a stroke that has debilitated the
right side of his body. His speech is affected and so Mark “translates” for him.
JESSIE (played by Lisa Smith): A strong, smart, sassy doctor and mother, she is
used to being right and being in charge. Often she is both. She dresses for success and
tries at all times to remain calm, cool and collected. She is at the cottage on a mission
but is avoiding it. She & T.J. were briefly an item in college which is not helping
matters at all.
