PORT JERVIS SECONDARY SUMMER SCHOOL CONTRACT
Summer School is a very concentrated session of learning, which requires
that our teachers review, summarize, and teach the work that was
originally covered in an entire year as well as prepare our students for state
assessments. Regular attendance is an important part of the formula for
success in school or on the job. Regular attendance in our Summer School
cannot be emphasized enough. To help you succeed in Summer School, you
should become familiar with the Expectations and Rules.
Expectations & Rules
 Attendance Procedures (Absenteeism)
 Students are allowed 3 absences per class

Students will be denied credit for receiving more than 3 absences
 Two instances of tardiness of less than 20 minutes will be counted as 1
absence
 Students who arrive after 20 minutes per class will be marked absent
 Behavior
 All students are expected to behave in a manner that is conducive to
learning.
 Students will conduct themselves in a moral and ethical manner at all times
 Students must

Comply with any reasonable request by a staff member.
Give his/her full name when it is requested by a staff member.
Use language or engage in behavior which is appropriate.
 Port Jervis City School District enforces a zero tolerance policy towards
violence and drugs. Any student whose behavior is determined to be
violent, involved with weapons of any kind, or in violation of Civil or Criminal
law will be dropped from the program.



This behavior includes, but is not limited to assault/battery, possession, use or
transfer of drugs or dangerous weapons, arson, extortion, bomb threats, severe
vandalism, theft, possession or sale of stolen property, causing a false fire alarm
and sexual harassment.
Penalties may include arrest.
Anyone observing or being victimized by such an act should report this
information to a faculty member or to the principal.
 Break
 Teachers have the right to not allow students to go on break.
 No one will be allowed to leave the campus or to be in any area other than
those designated.
 Students may use the Summer School Office phone and not their cell
phone as long as they have a legitimate excuse.
 Students may use the cafeteria.
 No drinks or food is allowed out of the cafeteria.
 Students will be expected to clean up after themselves before they leave
the cafeteria.
 No students will be allowed to go to their cars without being escorted by a
monitor.
 Clothing
 You must dress appropriately for class. Anyone coming to school with
clothing that is not compatible with safety or disruptive to the learning
process will be sent home.
 the following are deemed to be inappropriate & prohibited







Halters, tube-tops, bare mid-riffs, revealing sheer clothing, one-strapped tops and
any top exposing cleavage (front and back) shirts with any profane, vulgar or
obscene language, pictures or symbols with double meanings or promoting
drugs, alcohol, tobacco or sex-related topics
Tight skirts/shorts/pants, high slit skirts, short shorts, any skirt/shorts/pants with
any of the above written inappropriate messages
Clothing and coats designed primarily for outdoor use are not permitted to be
worn inside (parkas, rain or trench coats and vests, jackets, etc...) No hoods,
gloves, or sunglasses may be worn in school
Visible undergarments, any sleepwear, including bedroom slippers & any dress
similar in nature to sleepwear
Inappropriate spandex clothing
Bathing suits
Jewelry that can be harmful to others (chains of any kind, spikes, spiked collars &
wrist bands are prohibited)
 Drinking & Eating
 Students are only allowed to eat in the cafeteria and nowhere else.
 Students will be allowed, upon the discretion of the teacher, to drink clear
bottled or tap water in the classroom.
 Electronic Equipment (Black Berries, Cameras, Cell Phones, CD
Players, Headphones, I-pods, Pagers, Radios, Tape-Recorders, Video
Cameras, Walk-mans, etc.) is at the teachers’ discretion. If in
violation of the teachers’ policies, a guardian or parent may have to
come to the Summer School Office and have his/her student’s
electronic equipment picked up if it is confiscated! Persistent violations
will lead to dismissal from summer school. Middle School students
are not permitted to have any electronic equipment and will be
confiscated if in use.
 Gang Symbolism Prohibited
 Student behavior, dress, signing or symbolism intended to represent gang
affiliation will not be tolerated on school grounds.
 Bandannas and headgear are not permitted on school property and will be
taken.
 Loitering in the halls or on school grounds is not permitted.
Students not in the summer school program are not permitted on
school grounds.
 Medication
 School nurse must have a written order by the doctor stating






Reason for giving medication
Dosage to be given
Time medication should be given
Number of days medication should be given




Over the counter drugs are prohibited (e.g. Aspirin & Tylenol)
Medication must have a professional label.
Medication should be brought to school by an adult.
Parent must submit a written request to the school nurse to give the
medication as directed.
 Notify the school nurse if you are allergic to medications, insect stings, or
foods (medications may be brought into the school for allergic reactions but
must be kept with the nurse)
 No Inappropriate Display of Affection
 Kissing & inappropriate displays of affection are not allowed.
 Alcohol and Tobacco Products are Prohibited
 Any student who is caught with alcohol, smoking, chewing tobacco
products or any other drugs on school property will be dropped from the
summer school program.
 Skateboarding is Prohibited on School Property
CLOSED CAMPUS
Summer School operates under a “Closed Campus”. Students will not be permitted to
leave the campus during breaks to make phone calls, or to purchase drinks or food.
Once a student has completed his/her scheduled classes, he/she must exit the building
and the school vicinity.
Each student will be required to adhere to this contract. Any student
who violates this contract and does not cooperate with the faculty or
the principal will be dropped from the summer school program.
