of her companions and though all are
lovely, there is no mistaking which is she.“
•
•Homer referred to her as a mistress of
wild animals.
•
Epics of Homer
•The Iliad created a figure of a girl,
who had been thrashed by Hera,
climbs weeping into the lap of her
father Zeus asking him to grant her
six wishes.
Six Wishes

goddesses.
•
•Most self-sufficient, living on her own
terms, comfortable both in solitude
and having a role of leadership.

•
Artemis and Her Lover
•As a virgin, Artemis had gained
interest from many gods and men,
but only her hunting companion,
Orion had won her heart.
•
•Orion was supposedly on accident
killed by Artemis.
The Death of Her Lover
•Brother Apollo became jealous of the time
spent with Orion so when Orion was
swimming in a distant ocean, Apollo bet
Artemis that she couldn’t hit the floating
object off in the distance. With her archery
skills, she hit the target dead on and
realized that the “floating object” was
Orion. In her great grief she turned Orion
into various stars and shot him into the
night sky, making him a constellation in the
night sky.
