Analyze how the character of a place is related to its social and cultural elements. 2. Describe elements of culture, including language, religion, beliefs and customs, and institutions 3. Describe and compare patterns of culture such as language, religion, land use, education and customs that make specific regions of the world distinctive. (This will also be discussed in Unit 5) 4. Describe different types of regions including formal, functional, and perceptual regions. How can cultural values both unite and divide societies? What social characteristics and institutions do all cultures have in common? Aspects of culture include customs, roles, institutions, languages, religion, rural and urban settings, social structure and multiculturalism. How do aspects of culture influence people’s perceptions? How do belief systems and culture create opportunities for both conflict and cooperation? What are the basic tenets of the world’s largest belief systems?
