Developed by the Wildlife Medical Clinic University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine Objectives TEACHER’S GUIDE After completing this lesson: Students will know the LESSON 1 definition of a habitat, Habitats and Wildlife ecosystem, biome, and conservation. Students will be able to list main Illinois habitat (prairie, deciduous forest, wetlands, agricultural, urban, and freshwater aquatic). Students will be able to map the relationship between an animal, its habitat, and its diet. Students will be able to describe conservation activities Students will be able to compare and contrast two native Illinois bird species, two native Illinois mammal species, and two native Illinois reptile and amphibian species. When the assessment questions are used as a pre- and post-lesson tool, educators will be able to measure the degree of student understanding and effectiveness of material presentation. Students will appreciate their growth in understanding and accomplishment. Projects and Activities Wildlife Encounters Lesson 1: Habitats and Wildlife explores the varied environments in which wild animals are found. Students are introduced to the concepts of ecosystems, biomes, and species natural history. An extension of these topics is comparative morphology.
