What is CANCER?
It is basically a wound that does not heal!
The natural inflammatory responses are : redness, swelling, warmth and pain. Blood platelets detect a lesion,
gather around the site and release a chemical called Platelet-Derived Growth Factor (PDGF) alerting the white
blood cells of the immune system; in turn they produce a series of chemical transmitters such as
Cytokines, Chemokines, Prostaglandins, Leukotrienes, and Thromboxanes to coordinate the repair
operations. Firstly, these chemicals dilate blood vessels around the damaged site attracting the influx of
platelets and the permeability of the immune cells.
Secondly, they trigger growths of damaged tissue cells by regenerating the missing pieces and grow small
blood vessels locally to deliver oxygen and nutrients to the reconstructing site. This process naturally will be
stopped as soon as the repair work is completed.
CANCER, however, exploits this repairing process and it continues create new tissues, neovascularisation ( or
angiogenesis) involving the proliferation of new blood vessels. The process transforms a small, usually
harmless cluster of abnormal cells as an in-situ tumour into a large mass which could invade the body,
promoting the cancerous non- stopped growth and drive the body to destruction. They create the endless
inflammation infiltrating the neighbouring tissues, migrate, and then establish remote colonies called
'Metastases'.
In other words, surplus inflammatory chemicals in the surrounding tissues blocks a natural process called
Apoptosis (the suicide of cells). This adds fuels to the inflammation and disarm the immune functions and
continue the vicious cycles of destruction. The CANCER-PROVOKING inflammatory process and the
amounts of inflammatory agents can be measured to predict the survival time in many forms of cancers.
The new theory of cancer is that micro tumours cannot normally change into cancers without generating a new
network of blood vessels to feed them. However, the tumours cells produce a chemical called
''ANGIOGENIN" that attracts the vessels to move towards them and sprouting new branches of vessels . Then
large primary tumours send out cancer cells to distant territories 'metastasis '. This induces another chemical
substance called ANGIOSTATIN that blocks the growth of new blood vessels- a natural defence to block
angiogenesis. This accounts why metastasis sometimes suddenly grow , once the principal tumour has been
surgically removed.
The following attributes greatly increase a person's risk of developing cancer:
* Being chronically stressed. Stress increase the production of Noradrenalin (fight and flight hormone) and
Cortisol (stress hormone) which can cause potential wound in the body and are the fertilizers for cancer
growths.
* Genetic Factors: having an immediate family member with cancer; having high incidence of cancer cases on
one or both sides of the family.
* Exposure to environmental toxic substances and ecological risks ( pesticides, air pollutants, smoking etc.)
* Obesity and lacking exercises.
* Eating too little of fresh organic vegetables and fruits.
* Poor lifestyle measures and choices.
Investigations and tests:
However well you may feel and however up to date you are with your health, there is great benefit in
a) knowing how well your immune system functioning and detoxification status; and
b) a need for high doses of nutrients to support the anti-inflammatory and anti-cancer responses.
