THE SCIENCE
‘Sanitizers’ are defined as a detergent and disinfectant
combined in a single product. Since their inception these
products have never fully met the needs of the cleaning and
disinfection industry. This is because sanitizers are either
disinfectants offering little detergency; or surfactants with
low level disinfection.
Following years of research and development and now with
a proven track record in the field, Activ8’s developers are
producing a single patented formulation based on a blend
of ingredients in a combination never previously described
but which achieves both powerful cleaning and excellent
disinfection in one.

Activ8 offers powerful cleaning and disinfection in a single,

medical, commercial or household use. Activ8 is ideal for
use in the front line of infection control, with applications
ranging from the prevention and control of MRSA, C.Diff
and Norovirus in a medical setting, stopping the spread of
Avian influenza, SARS and other pandemics in public places,
to implementation of good hygiene practice in the school
or office.
Activ8 works by irreversibly binding, penetrating and

WHAT IS THE SECRET?
Activ8 works in stark contrast to other disinfectants
which simply affect the microbial cell wall by temporary
attachment. Such products may only prevent growth for a
period of time but cells will eventually recover and multiply
again. Activ8’s secret lies in its unique ability to penetrate
the outer membranes of bacteria, viruses, fungi and
microbial spores. It rapidly inactivates the genetic material
inside the cell thus preventing replication and multiplication
by destroying the RNA and DNA.

It is accepted that good hygiene
practice and in particular good
personal hygiene practice and
surface decontamination are effective in preventing the
spread of the virus.
Activ8 is a proven, safe, environmentally friendly cleaner
and disinfectant range. We have been involved over a
number of years in the international development of its
unique non-toxic and non-corrosive formulation. Activ8
offers powerful single stage cleaning and disinfection
without affecting mammalian cells unlike traditional
and harmful bleaching agents. These products require
separate cleaning and disinfection steps and often require
large volumes of product to get a satisfactory result.
Activ8 previously completed comprehensive testing
against RNA viruses similar to Ebola virus, including
Norovirus, SARS, Polio, influenza. Recent work also
demonstrates Activ8’s ability to completely denature
DNA and RNA leaving no traces on surfaces. As there are
no strains of Ebola virus available for testing, government
bodies are accepting proof of viracidal activity against
a surrogate virus or a history of virucidal activity is
acceptable to make a claim against Ebola virus.

hospital disinfectant with a label claim for a non-enveloped virus
(e.g., norovirus, rotavirus, adenovirus, poliovirus) to disinfect

with specific label claims against the Ebola virus, enveloped
viruses such as Ebola are susceptible to a broad range of hospital
disinfectants used to disinfect hard, non-porous surfaces. In
contrast, non-enveloped viruses
are more resistant to disinfectants.
As a precaution, selection of a
disinfectant product with a higher
potency than what is normally
required for an enveloped virus
is being recommended at this
time. EPA-registered hospital
disinfectants with label claims
against non-enveloped viruses
(e.g.,
norovirus,
rotavirus,
adenovirus, poliovirus) are broadly
antiviral and capable of inactivating
both enveloped and non-enveloped
viruses.”
