Poetry Portfolio
OBJECTIVES
Design a portfolio that showcases a variety of poems that have some personal meaning
or importance.
Effectively include poetic devices to enhance poems.
CREATE A PORTFOLIO COVER PAGE
The cover for your poetry portfolio should reflect the poems you’ve created and be designed
to sell (like the cover you might find on a poetry book in Borders).
• What propaganda techniques might you use? (Bandwagon, Glittering Generalities,
Plain Folks, Transfer,…)
• Any materials can be used including magazine/newspaper clippings, clip art, or internet
pictures. Sources should be cited if necessary.
INCLUDE A TABLE OF CONTENTS
• Put a table of contents in the front of the portfolio
• List poem titles (in quotation marks) and page numbers
POEMS
• TYPE everything in an easy-to-read font OR hand-written neatly in pen
• Use correct poetry conventions (punctuation, lines, stanzas)
• List page numbers on each page (except for front, table of contents, or back cover)
• Include a title (quotation marks or italicized) for each poem
• Include your first and last name for each poem
• Add an illustration (see more information below) for each poem
INCLUDE A PICTURE FOR EACH POEM
• Use a photograph, a hand-drawn illustration, or Microsoft Clipart
• NO PICTURES FROM THE INTERNET! If you want this option, talk to Ms. Eller.
FIVE WRITTEN ANALYSIS PAPERS
FIVE of your TEN poems should have a written analysis.
Use the graphic organizer to write your analysis of the poem. It will include information on
the following:
• Structure (number of stanzas and lines, rhyme scheme, repetition, couplet, quatrain,
etc.)
• At least one poetic term (metaphor, simile, personification, alliteration, assonance,
consonance, imagery, etc.)
• Explain the theme (message) or the purpose (to explain/to entertain)of the poem

Plagiarism
To steal a person’s words or images is the same as stealing his or her money. When someone plagiarizes, it means
that they steal the words or work of someone else. You must always credit the sources you use when you take information
from the internet, books, magazines and any published works.
One way to avoid this problem is to never use more than three words in a row from the source from which you are
taking information. You should also give a citation for your source after you present the information even if it is a picture.
You can put this information beneath the picture or create a works cited page and clearly direct the credit to that source
beneath the picture. Failure to produce this information will result in your grade going down one whole letter grade (from
A to B, from B to C, etc.).
