Colten Miller 3rd Hour December 2, 2013 The Olympians Who were the Olympians? The Olympians are a group of 12 gods who ruled after the Titans were over thrown. Cronus Zeus’s dad started to eat all of his children so he couldn’t be defeated and loose his spot as leader of the Titans(Roberts1). Zeus’s mom Rhea got very angry at Cronus for this so she gave Zeus to Gaia Cronus’s mom(Roberts 3). Gaia then gave Zeus to the Nymphs to take care of him and make him strong(Roberts 7). When Zeus finally was ready he went to a cave to tell Gaia that he was ready. She gave him a Thunder-Bolt so he could defeat Cronus(Roberts 12) (“GreekMythology”). Rhea after she gave Zeus to Gaia she gave Cronus a big Stone to act as Zeus so he thinks that he has ate Zeus(“GreekMythology”). The story made the way I reflected the caparison better. Zeus was made the head god. After he defeated Cronus he married Hera and they had 7 of the other gods. Zeus had many affairs but only one came to be a god out of it the other were never known. Zeus’s brothers and sister had the others. That is how the 12 Olympians got started. The Olympians defeated the Titians. Zeus sent them to his brother Hades in the Under-World. The Olympians took over powers of the Titans but not only did they take them over, they improved them a lot instead of bowing down they could just wave. That is why people liked the Olympians better. Olympians all have different powers. Zeus had the thunderbolt. He also ruled over both mankind and over the gods. He was the most powerful god. It was uncertain that he was ever going to grow up to the man he was because he cause a lot of mischief as a kid. Poseidon is the god of sea and horses. He had one of the worst tempers out of the gods. He was feared because he was able to cause earthquakes. Also he was able to make fresh water gush out of the Earth for the poor that couldn’t afford to get fresh water. Hera was the wife of Zeus. She was the goddess of wedding and marriage. She got very jealous of the affairs Zeus was having with her. Zeus then hung her with golden chains. Aris was very disliked by Zeus and Hera. She is the god of war. Also she is known as being a coward. Athena is Zeus’s favorite child(EdWeb). She invented the horse bridle. Also she was the only person to be able to use all of Zeus’s weapons including the thunderbolt(HistoryLink). Apollo was the god of music. He can’t speak a lie(Neil3). He is the best archer out of all the gods. He plays a solid gold lyre. Artemis is Apollo’s twin sister. She is the hunts man of the gods. She presides over child birth. She is the lady of wild things. Also she protects the young. Aphrodite is the god of love. There are two accounts of her birth. She is married to Hephaestus. The dove, swan, and sparrow are her birds. Hermes is the son of Zeus(Neil6). When he was a child he stole horses form his brother Apollo to give to his mom for a gift of food and blankets. Zeus didn’t even know that his son was born. He later became Zeus’s messenger. He has wings on his shoes which makes him the fastest god. Hades is the ruler over the dead. He is the greediest of all of the gods. Also he is the god of wealth. He has a special helmet that makes him invisible(“GreekMythology”). He only leaves the underworld for a meeting of the gods at MT Olympus. Hestia is the Virgin goddess. Also she is the goddess of hearth. She played no parts in myths. She also is Zeus’s sister. Also she is the mildest most up right and most charitable god. Hephaestus is the only god that is physically ugly. He is the god fire and forges. Zeus who is his father, through him of the top of MT. Olympus because he didn’t like the way he looked. He is also the god of being lame. As a forge he uses volcanoes. The reflect on how the comparison of the story made it more interesting. The gods are very interesting in so many ways. They might not have of been the kindest of people but they tried. They were better than the Titans because the Titans did not try to help the people but the Olympians did. The people appreciated the help but most denied the help because it made them feel like they had to live off of the gods to stay alive. That is the story of the gods and how the beat the Titans and helped the people. Works Cited "Ancient Greece." Ancient Greece. N.p., n.d.
