Boron
Nickel
Plays no role in enzymatic functions but is needed for sugar transport, cell
wall synthesis, lignification, and carbohydrate metabolism.

Required in extremely small quantities for the breakdown, conversion, and
proper use of NH4 and urea.

Calcium
Nitrogen
Important for cell wall formation, cell division, and overall growth of the plant. It
also regulates chemical reactions for stress reduction and facilitates cell wall
repair.

A major component of chlorophyll, amino acids, proteins, and key
biostimulants. It is very mobile within the plant and the soil. Plants will take up
and utilize nitrogen as nitrate (NO3), ammonium (NH4), and urea (CO(NH2)2).

Carbon
The building block of life. It makes up over 40% of the plant’s dry matter and
is the structural component of carbohydrates, amino acids, hormones, and
enzymes – to name a few.

Oxygen
Major role as a basic reactant for the respiration reaction. It is also a major
component of the plant’s carbohydrate and biostimulant load. Elemental
oxygen is used by the plant as a free radical for stress response.

Chlorine
Phosphorus
Abundant in nature making supplemental applications rarely needed. It is
important for the release of oxygen in the photosynthetic process and in
proper stomata operation.
Products: future product in research for paspalum only
Provides energy in the form of ATP. It has other duties as a structural
component of DNA and RNA and in the metabolism of lipids. Deficiencies of
phosphorus result in slow, inefficient growth. Foliar supplements are highly
recommended for by-passing the soil tie-ups.

Cobalt
Central to Vitamin B12 and has primary role in the plant is to assist enzymes
such as catalase and peroxidase to improve photosynthesis and respiration.

Copper
Constituent part of the enzymes that drive chlorophyll production, antioxidant
activity, carbohydrate metabolism, and lignification.

Hydrogen
A major component of all biostimulants and structural components of the
plant. The hydrogen ion (H+) is also used by the plant to drive certain
membrane functions for proper nutrient absorption from the soil.

Iron
Plays an important role in over 70 enzymatic functions in the plant. Most
importantly, it drives free radical generation and chlorophyll production.

Manganese
Plays a role in enzymatic functions that drive the synthesis of biostimulants,
photosynthesis and oxygen release, and cell division and extension.

Magnesium
Best known as the center element of the chlorophyll molecule. It also plays a
big role in protein synthesis, RNA function, and use of ATP.

Molybdenum
Plays only one extremely critical enzymatic role – to properly convert NO 3 to
NH2 within the plant for protein synthesis.

Potassium
Used for stabilizing chemistry within cells, maintaining proper stomata control,
and facilitating photosynthesis and protein building. It exists (within a plant)
only as the K+ ion and is not a structural component of things such as
enzymes or cell walls.

Silicon
Plays a critical role within the plant for structural integrity, membrane
operation, stress defense, and cell division. It doesn’t appear to play any
enzymatic roles and combines mainly as repeating units of (SiO).

Sodium
Plays a key role in transport of CO2 and the success of photosynthesis but is
only needed in very small quantities. Excess salt can lead to soil sealing,
dehydration, and induce oxidative stress. In salt-tolerant plants such as
paspalum, Na also enhances growth by expanding leaf area and thickness
and increasing sugar content.

Sulfur
Used in the production of amino acids, proteins, antioxidants, and enzymes.
Sulfur deficiency results in slow, inefficient growth. Shortages in the soil are
infrequent and SO4 ties-up readily with calcium.

Zinc
Almost exclusive use in enzymatic activities. It plays a role in DNA replication,
CO2 splitting, defense mechanisms, and cell division. Zinc also helps in
protein synthesis, carbohydrate metabolism, and membrane integrity.
