Steps:
1. Use the distributive property to
eliminate any parentheses.
2. Move the variables to one side of
the equation
3. Move the numbers to the other
side of the equation.
4. Solve the equation
2. 2(a ‐ 2) = 3(a ‐ 5)
Remember: When solving an
equation:
• If the left solution and the right
solution are the same (x = x) or
(5 = 5), the answer is all solutions.
3. 3(2g + 4) = 6(g + 2)
• If the left solution and the right
solution are different (5 = 0,
-3 = 2), the answer is ∅ (null).
