The Franciscan Pilgrimage
Purpose
Cardinal Stritch University is dedicated to deepening the Franciscan charism within the very foundation of the University. In an effort to broaden and enrich the understanding of the Franciscan Values important to the Sisters of St. Francis of Assisi, to the University, and to the world including... Scallop Shell
Recognized, even prior to the Middle Ages, as the symbol of Christian pilgrimage and thus the emblem of every pilgrim. To this day pilgrims are acknowledged simply by wearing the shell around their neck. One of its purposes was to scoop water from rivers and streams to quench thirst. Tau Cross
The Tau was the symbol used by Francis of Assisi as his signature. Wearing the Tau is a declaration of commitment to on-‐going transformation of life which was at the core of Francis’ spirituality. This particular Tau is reputed to have been made by Francis’ own hand on a windowsill in the chapel of St. Mary Magdalene at Fonte Colombo, Italy. Making Peace Reverencing Creation Showing Compassion and Creating a Caring Community, Cardinal Stritch University provides yearly funding for staff, faculty and administrators to participate in the Franciscan Leadership Pilgrimage. In recent years, nearly 125 employees have been afforded this opportunity. Pilgrimage
