1 CURRICULUM VITAE Vesna Mandušić (maiden name Vranić), PhD, Molecular biologist, Date of Birth: 09.07.1966 Martial status: married, two children (14 and 17 years) Professional Address: Institute for Nuclear Sciences “Vinča” Department for Radiobiology & Molecular Genetics Mike Alasa 12-14, Vinča, P.O. Box 522, Belgrade, Serbia, Institute’s web site: www.vinca.rs Phone: +381-64-2088835, E-mails: [email protected], THE RESUME OF SCIENTIFIC AND EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITIES Over 20 years of scientific experience in the area of cancer research and therapy; familiar with main molecular biology techniques and its application in biomedical research. From 1994 to 2002 participating in the preclinical study within collaboration of our Institute with ICN Pharmaceuticals, Galenika – Belgrade. Within this project, my activities was related to optimizing the protocols for detection of tiazofurin-induced erythrocytotoxicity by standard hematological methods and by scanning probe microscopy. As a result of in vivo and in vitro hematological toxicity studies of new drugs and chemotherapeutic regimens, the output was several publications and abstracts of scientific meetings. In 1998 and 2001 I made two short pauses in the scientific work due to parental leaves. From the 2002, I have started collaboration with a research group at the Institute of Oncology and Radiology of Serbia, Belgrade (the largest oncology Clinic in Serbia). In the scope of this collaboration, I analyzed the expression of estrogen receptor β (ERβ) isoforms, by real time RT-PCR (with TaqMan probes) and Western blot methodology. The results of this study, on breast cancer samples were a major part of my PhD thesis. Moreover, three publications were ensued from this collaboration. Some of the results were presented at scientific conferences. From academic year 2002/03 until 2006, I have been engaged as associate lecturer in School for persons professionally exposed to radiation, which is part of Vinca’s Institute Continuous Training Courses. Study subject was the “Biological Effects of Radiation”.. 2 As a postdoctoral fellow at German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ), Heidelberg, Germany (July, 2007 – October, 2008), my research was focused on quantitative expression analyses of the isoforms and splice variants of estrogen receptors (ERα and ERβ) in the clinical samples of early- and late-onset breast cancer. Ongoing projects and activities are related to defining the new and emerging predictive and prognostic markers in human malignancies (mainly carcinomas and sarcomas) at DNA, RNA and protein level by using an up-to-date methodology. In present position, I was supervising three PhD students who successfully defended their thesis during last two years. Further research activities of my team will be focused on the role of alternatively spliced isoforms of ERs’ and members of their signaling pathways, which play important role in cancer biology and may represent the novel target in cancer therapy. EDUCATION 2006 PhD degree, PhD of Biological Sciences, Faculty of Biology, University of Belgrade.
