Here at Bath Festivals we believe that
books open doors to the world, inspiring
creativity and enquiry, quenching children’s
thirst for knowledge, as well as teaching
empathy and understanding. We love all
the possibilities a book can offer, from the
ability to draw you into the exciting arc of a
narrative to being a safe place to escape to.
We want to share that possibility with as
many children and young people as we can
so we have programmed a week of events that we hope will kick start, reinvigorate
and deepen children’s reading journey.
We are lucky there are so many talented authors & illustrators out there that can
inspire children and we have invited a brilliant selection for you and your pupils. Shane Hegarty will enthral us with battles between heroes and villains; visit
magical worlds with CBeebies', Cerrie Burnell; watch Caroline Lawrence and Martin
Brown bring historical characters to life. There’ll be new ways of looking at traditional tales and myths with Tom Percival and Lucy Coats, a celebration of Shakespeare with Tony Bradman, as well as special poetry events with A F Harrold to
celebrate National Poetry Day and events to discover comics. Oh in incase anyone
likes mini beasts we’ve invited Cbeebies’ Jess French too!
Join us in October and discover a new author, a new illustrator, a new story, the
next step into a book. We look forward to welcoming you to our Festival.

What is Readathon?
In a nutshell: Kids in school reading to help kids in hospital. We get children reading
for fun through our sponsored read in schools. The money raised provides children's hospitals with regular storyteller visits, plus a mobile bookcase jampacked full of brand new books which are replenished every six weeks.
We give schools free resources with everything needed to run a brilliantly successful sponsored read.
Read along with us
As you might imagine, here at Bath Festivals we love reading and we love it when
reading can make a difference. So we’d love you to sign up and take part in our Bath
Children’s Literature Festival
Readathon. Complete your Readathon over the festival period, get friends and family to sponsor you and raise money for books for Bristol Children’s Hospital. Pupils
can choose how much they want to read and what they fancy reading from comics
to classics. You could even read our Kids Big Bath Read as part of your Readathon
Challenge.
Sign up and win a prize
If your school signs up to Readathon by Friday 17th June we will enter you into a
prize draw to win a class worth of tickets to an event in the festival plus a free
coach. The draw will take place on Friday 1st July. School will be drawn at random
from all orders that state "BATH" as the reason for ordering.
