Materials and Methods: 100 Patients who had undergone SICS in Department of Ophthalmology, NRI Medical College & General Hospital from January 2016 to March 2016 were included in this study. All the patients were evaluated for dry eye disease by Ocular Surface Disorder Index (OSDI) Questionnaire score, Schirmer test – I (ST-I), Tear Film Breakup Time (TBUT) and Fluorescein Staining (Oxford Ocular Surface Staining System). Results: OSDI, ST-I, TBUT & Fluorescein Stain Grading were measured in all the patients in the preoperative and after 1 week, 1 month and 3 months in postoperative period. Diagnosis of dry eye disease (DED) included OSDI scores >25, ST-I values <10mm and TBUT values <10 seconds. All the parameters peaked at one month post operative period. By the 12th week of post operative period all the signs and symptoms improved gradually. Conclusion: Cataract surgery can lead to or aggravate dry eye disease. All the patients should be evaluated before and after SICS to prevent and manage dry eye effectively so that the patient will not have poor quality of life and vision due to dry eye disease. Careful monitoring of tear film function and the extended use of artificial tear supplements after SICS is advised to manage dry eye disease. Key Words: Dry Eye Disease, Ocular Surface Disorder Index, Small Incision Cataract Surgery, Tear Film. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Address for correspondence: Access this Article Online Dr. G.
