COF’sworkismarkedbyanemphasisontheconnectionbetweentheatreandcommunity,a commitmenttoexcellenceinactinganddesign,andthesignatureintimacyofourtheatricalhome,the LibertyTheatre,whichseatsfewerthan245patrons. TheCompanywasfoundedin1992inRichmond,Virginia,asaresponsetoanessaybythevisualartist CecilCollinsentitled“TheVisionoftheFool.”InCollins’essay,thefoolembodiestruth,joy,creativity andachildlikewonderofallthatismagicalandmysterious.Theresponsetooktheformofaquestion: "Whatwoulditbeliketohaveanactingcompanythatembodiesthequalitiesofthefool?" InNovember1996,CompanyofFoolsrelocatedtoHailey,Idaho.Twentyyearslater,COFhasgrownand evolvedintoanaward-winningtheatrethatproducesafullseasonofplayswhileprovidingsubstantial arts-in-educationprogramming.InNovember2012,theCompanymergedwithSunValleyCenterforthe Arts(TheCenter),becomingpartofa45-year-oldorganizationthatisnowthelargestartsinstitutionin Idaho. ComplementingtheMainStageSeriesarethecollaborativeofferingsofTheCenter’sBIGIDEAprojects (twoorthreeannually).Formorethan15years,TheCenterhasfocusedoncreatingoriginalprograms andexhibitionsthatconsiderthemesthataretopical,immediateandartisticallymuscular.These multidisciplinaryprojectsaredesignedtostimulatetheimagination,promoteconversation,provoke thoughtandengagethecommunity. Beyondourworkonstage,COFandTheCenteralsoprovidedynamicarts-in-educationprogramming targetedprimarilytogradesK-12.Inaddition,allofCOF’sproductionsandprogramsareembeddedwith ahighlytunedunderstandingoftheuniquecommunitytheyserve. THECOMMUNITY LocatedinSouthCentralIdaho,theWoodRiverValleyisinBlaineCounty,attheedgeoftheSawtooth andChallisNationalForests.SunValleyhasbeenreferredtoas"America’sFirstDestinationSkiResort" andoffersrecreationalactivitiesgalore.NestledinthespectacularRockyMountains,SunValleyResort isoneofthegreatwinterskidestinations.TothenorthofKetchum/SunValleyliesthemajestic SawtoothWildernessAreawhichboastsover200,000acresofnaturalsplendor,withopportunitiesfor swimming,fishing,mountainbiking,white-waterraftingandmore.Withallofthesenaturalamenities andaterrificclimate(anaveragehumidityofonly30percent),thecommunityattractsanathletic, activepopulationthatembracesahealthy,enrichedlifestyle.Manybright,accomplishedprofessionals andtheirfamiliesspendwintersandsummersintheValley,andmanychoosetoleavemetropolitan areastomakethistheiryear-roundhome.Withexcellentpublicandprivateschoolscombinedwithan abundanceofarts,cultureandrecreation,thisisanidealplacetoraiseafamily.Thewell-educated, well-traveledpopulationdemandsdiverseandexceptionalartsandcultureprograms. THEPOSITION TheAssociateArtisticDirectorwillserveastheright-handassociatetotheArtisticDirectorandmanage theday-to-dayartisticoperationsofabusytheatre.Wewilltailorthepositiontotheindividualwehire, butkeyresponsibilitiesarelikelytoinclude: • Directingproductions,ifappropriatetocandidate’sexperienceandinterests • Directingreadingsandspecialeventsforthetheatre • ServingasProjectDirectorforallCOFeducationalprograms • Participatingactivelyinseasonplanning/Readingandrecommendingplaysforproduction • TakinganespeciallyactiveroleintheplanningandsupervisionofCompanyofFools’reading seriesandspecialprojects • Actingasaprimaryliaisonforvisitingdirectorsandotherartists • Servingastalentscoutfordesigners,directorsandactors • Representingthetheatreanditsmissionatindustryandpublicevents • Developing,implementingandleadinganinternshipprogram • Supervisinginternsandanyotherassignedfull-orpart-timestaffmembers • Participatinginshort-andlong-terminstitutionalplanning • Possessingexemplarywritingandverbalskills EXPERIENCEANDQUALIFICATIONS CompanyofFoolsisseekinganindividualwithconsiderabletalent,passionforthetheatreandarts-ineducation,andtheabilitytoadvanceinstitutionalaims.Wewelcomeapplicationsfromtheatre directors,designers,actorsandothertheatreartists.Weexpectacandidatetohave: • Adegreeintheatreorequivalentprofessionalexperience • Artistictaste,talentandskill • Significantexperienceasaworkingartistatprofessionaltheatres • Experiencemanagingpeopleandcollaboratingacrossdisciplines • Atrackrecordofeffectiveoralandwrittencommunication • Apassionforbeingastrongartisticvoiceinasmall,vibrantcommunity Weprovideouremployeeswithafullbenefitspackageandacompetitivesalarycommensuratewith experience.
