Capital Campaign
The Institute’s Board of Trustees and staff has been engaged during the past several years in extensive
program planning and fundraising to address DMEI’s current and future space needs. As a result of these
efforts, a new 78,500 square foot building adjoining the current 70,000 square foot DMEI facility has been
constructed and is now open. The new five-floor building is devoted to approximately 40% research, 40%
patient care, and 20% infrastructure. To date, $46 million has been contributed to the construction and
renovation project by visionary individuals, corporations, organizations, and foundations.
The Dean McGee Eye Institute Foundation (DMEIF)
The Foundation was established in 1992 and is a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. The Foundation
supports research, education and patient care activities at the Dean McGee Eye Institute (DMEI). It is funded by
contributions from friends, grateful patients, faculty, staff, corporations and foundations who give generously
each year. These gifts help DMEI to carry out its mission to serve our community through excellence and
leadership in eye care, education and vision research.
For more information on the campaign and the foundation, please contact us [email protected].

Mission
The Dean McGee Eye Institute is dedicated to serving all Oklahomans and the global community through
excellence and leadership in patient care, education and vision research.
Background
In 1971, Dean A. McGee, President of the Kerr-McGee Corporation, developed a retinal detachment. This was
successfully repaired by Dr. Tullos O. Coston and Dr. Thomas E. Acers. Inspired by this experience, Mr. McGee
joined the effort to establish an eye institute. His stature within the community, leadership, and personal
generosity provided the catalyst for the creation the Eye Institute that bears his name.
