The Eighteenth-Century Scottish Studies Society “Conference within the Congress” FOURTEENTH INTERNATIONAL CONGRESS FOR 18th-CENTURY STUDIES “Opening Markets, Trade and Commerce in the Eighteenth Century” Rotterdam, The Netherlands Congress Dates: 26–31 July 2015 ECSSS Sessions: 28–30 July 2015 CALL FOR PAPERS For the fourth time in its history, the Eighteenth-Century Scottish Studies Society will hold its annual conference in conjunction with the International Congress on 18th-Century Studies (formerly the International Enlightenment Congress), which meets every four years under the aegis of the International Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies. The 2015 Congress will occur in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. As at Bristol in 1991, Dublin in 1999, and Montpellier in 2007, ECSSS will have its own sessions within the Congress. The 2015 Congress, hosted by the Organizing Committee of the Dutch-Belgian Society for Eighteenth-Century Studies (DBSECS), is focused on the theme of “Opening Markets, Trade and Commerce in the Eighteenth Century.” This is also the main theme of the ECSSS “conference within the congress.” ECSSS members who wish to participate in the society’s “conference within the congress” should submit their proposals for panels, round tables, or individual 20-minute papers directly to ECSSS rather than to the congress. Please send proposals by 1 November 2014—along with a one-page abstract (with title) for each paper proposed and a brief c.v. for each participant—to Richard B. Sher, Executive Secretary, ECSSS, [email protected]. Please note that proposals must be received by this deadline so that ECSSS can comply with the timetable formulated by the congress organizers. All participants must register for the congress in the regular way (www.ISECS2015.com). A highlight of the event will be a performance on the eighteenth-century Scottish wirestrung “guitar” by Rob MacKillop of Glasgow and Jelma Amersfoort of Amsterdam, performing music by the eighteenth-century Scottish composer James Oswald. Looking forward to seeing you in Rotterdam!
