Winners of WIPO-IPOS IP Awards 2015
1. Hawaii Furnishing Pte Ltd ( ScanTeak)
IPOS Award for Design Innovation
Representative: Ms Jamie Lim, Regional Marketing Director
Hawaii Furnishing (ScanTeak) is an international furniture company, with a global
network of six corporate offices that oversee more than a hundred stores and retail
outlets worldwide. A family-run operation founded in 1974 to offer European furniture
designs created with Asian materials—‘Scan’ was chosen to allude to Scandinavia,
and ‘Teak’ to refer to the dark Asian wood used in its furniture—ScanTeak now
employs nearly more than 500 staff across Asia, Europe and the United States, and
achieved a turnover of over $100 million last year.
Scanteak aligns its design innovation and marketing strategy with its IP strategy.
Moving away from a manufacturing-centric business model to a more consumercentric one, ScanTeak launched its Prologue Collection, which is backed by an R&Dintensive approach to cater to consumer lifestyles and market needs. The birth and
success of the Prologue Collection has made ScanTeak an industry role model in
embracing design awareness and focussing on design innovation.
2. Stratech Systems Limited
IPOS Award for Technology Patent
Representative: Dr David K.M. Chew, Executive Chairman
The Stratech Group is a market leader in technology innovation, whose key
breakthroughs include intelligent vision systems – highly sophisticated and adaptive
technologies that provide precise image processing solutions for surveillance and
security. Building on its long expertise in developing mission-critical e-systems for both
government and business clients, it is now making swift inroads into the aerospace
sector with its iFerretTM airfield/runway surveillance and Foreign Object & Debris
detection system. This flagship product has been deployed in major airports such as
Singapore’s Changi Airport, Dubai International Airport and Hong Kong International
Airport. It has recently won its first contract from a U.S. commercial airport, Miami
International Airport, which is also one of the world’s top commercial aviation hubs.
Since its certification by the US Federal Aviation Administration in 2012, the iFerret™
patented technology has been successfully deployed in major airports, generating
significant revenue for the company, including recurring revenue for the maintenance
of the surveillance system. With continued innovation, as demonstrated in the
development of iFerret™, Stratech is positioned to capture new business opportunities
as they emerge and sustain its long-term growth.
3. MindChamps Holdings Pte Limited
IPOS Award for Trade Mark Portfolio
Representative: Mr David Chiem, Founder, Chairman and Group CEO
MindChamps is an international mind development institute that has trained over
60,000 students from pre-school to university level in the art of learning and in having
a winning mindset. MindChamps synthesised research from the 4 domains of
Education, Psychology, Neuroscience and Theatre to addressing the gap that exists in
education wherein children are taught what to learn and not how to learn.
MindChamps has registered a comprehensive portfolio of trade marks to protect its
products and services both locally and overseas. This has allowed the company to
pursue a successful franchise model, underpinned by its established brand name and
scientifically validated curriculum, which is designed to ensure children develop a
deep passion for learning and a Champion Mindset.
