“Blic” at the “The Walking Ghost” premiere: a tragic happy end
By Tatjana Nježić
An excellent, magnificent play. I would like to watch it again, immediately, said Goran Paskaljević last night
after the premiere of “The Walking Ghost” by Dejan Dukovksi, directed by Aleksandar Popovski, performed
at the Serbian National Theatre in Novi Sad.
The premiere performance of the play by Dejan Dukovski, directed by Aleksandar Popovski, was welcomed by
thundering ovations of the standing audience in the overcrowded auditorium of the Serbian National Theatre
(coproduction with the Centre for Development of Visual Culture).
In unison, the audience followed, sometimes with laughter, the voyage of the main character Mara (Nenad
Pećinar), a Shakespearelogist pressed with injustices, taking matters into own hands, starting the battle and
confrontations… Scenes where the normal and abnormal interweave in a glamorous theatrical manner flow
by, sights and replicas that render the audience breathless.
Mara will say, among other things: ”When there is no system, I am the system”, he will notice that “quasi
feudal system” is in action, that “nothingness is the New World Order”, that we are the sheep in the ”bloody
farce” of the wolf and sheep, that “people can select freedom”, that “whoever executes a revolution digs his
own grave”, that “all we have to fear is fear itself”... In short – a deeply layered, multi meaningful, interrogative
and spirited play marked by a tragic happy-end.
- An excellent production, excellent script. And in its essence a horrible account of our time and country where
the spirit of rebellion rises. Simply, there are a lot of people who feel that everything has died out and that there
is no one thought or idea that could lead us and take us away from this boredom. The play boasts excellent
humour with double edges; it makes you laugh and stings at the same time- said Goran Paskaljević
According to the words of Laslo Vegel,”The Walking Ghost” is a strong, dynamic and fascinating
production.
- In brief-the play deals artistically yet in full strength with our chaos, the chaos in our lives. Pressures and
injustice are impossible to cope with, and the rebellion seems pointless. Actually, at the beginning of XXI
century rebellion has become melancholic and futile with strong shocks. This represents that chaos of ours;
people feel that the injustice has become intolerable, they feel that the urge to rebel, but they are bound by
the chains that in most cases they have put on themselves by their own actions. A person today confusedly
observes the events, does not understand them, and does not have a stand… All of this has been perfectly
displayed in the play-said Laslo Vegel.
Manageress of the Zagreb Youth Theatre, Snježana Abramović Milković, also did not hide the words of praise,
stressing the theatrical expression in creation of normality in abnormal and vice versa, and said that in the
theatre exchange she would love to see “The Walking Ghost” on stage in Zagreb.
Tonight, the audience comprised Bojan Pajtić, Teofil Pančić, Egon Savin, Kokan Mladenović, Sergej Trifunović,
Sloba Šuljagić, Miloš Latinović, Zoran Maksimović, Sveta Jovanov, Vlada Kopicl, Boško Milin and many
others.
The glorious acting ensemble members are Nenad Pećinar, Dušan Jakšić, Milorad Kapor, Igor Pavlović,
Radoje Čupić, Jovana Stipić, Gordana Đurđević Dimić and others.
